Hi all,

I've had this problem for a while but it's recently got a lot worse. Whenever i have the heater fans on i get a really strong smell of petrol/oil. This happens from when the car is cold but now also when it's at full temperature.

I've got the usual leaking rocker cover gasket after i did the head gasket. I changed the air filter recently if that could have anything to do with it? I can't think what else might be causing it???

The other day it was so bad i couldn't drive without the window open!

Check the fuel pipes in the engine bay and rocker cover gasket and breather pipe for spilts/leaks.

Well the rocker gasket is leaking quite a bit but i doubt that explains the smell.

Whereabouts is the breather pipe? Is that the small one that connects to the air filter assembly?

I'll check all the pipes and fuel lines for leaks but i've not noticed any - i should notice an increase in fuel consumption if it was bad?

Yes the rocker cover leaking could cause the smell, as its leaking out and running down onto the hot exhaust manifold which will burn it and make a smell of burning oil.

Yes that is the breather pipe.

Possibly depends if its actually a leak or not.

are you sure its petrol/oil smell an not fishy egg?

nah, defo oil/petrol. I don't think i could stand fishy egg!
