Hello Fiat owners. I have already read a lot from the forum about my problem but still confused a little. I own Fiat 2005 Punto 1.2 8V. The problem is that the abs lights up when I insert the key and turn it until the ignition and after I start the engine it briefly stays on until I start moving and then goes off when I take off. The abs pump kicks in and makes the sounds with the pedal vibrating and the brakes acting just as abs works usually. It all lasts untill I speed up to 40-55 km/h (25-35 mph) and then the abs light comes back again and the brakes continue working as conventional brakes. It all started a few days after I unsrewed the back seat to clean it at home. I took the car to the diagnostics and it gave C1046, C1047 and C1052 codes. The guy told me that the sensors are dead, but I couldn't believe they could die both at the same time. So I bought the vag com kkl+ fiatecuscan cable to try to check it myself and guess what happened, this little bastard connects to engine and airbag module but does not work with abs module. So I decided to check the sensors' resistance and compare them with the front sensor readings and it showed me around 707-717 oms. I read that it could be either the break in the wiring harness or the sensors or even the magnetic ring on the bearing. I went to the mechanic and they told me they are not sure and asked me 75 eur just to check this. I would like to fix it but I assume there is cheaper way at least to determine what is the problem. I would like to ask more experienced punto owners, what would you advice me to do? May be someone has the pin layout of the abs main connecter under the bonnet so I could check the resistance from the bonnet and guess it could show me if there is any problem in the wiring. Thanks a lot for reading and yes I live in Finland, where the prices for the servicing could just bite your hand off :). Hope for your help.

Come, I would be glad to assist you to open a shop, was thinking of that myself. No they did not do anything useful, the guy spent 1 hour to tell me the exact same thing I told him when I came in. I told the guy in the beginning that I am not sure is because of wiring, bearing or sensor, guess what he told me after one hour? So I did not agree to do anything at their shop. I took the car to other shop where the guy for 20 euros told me these 3 error codes, and could not as well explain me the real reason of that. The cable I bought doesn't connect to abs module, whatever I did to it, even I soldered the 1st and 7th contact directly, must be some other issue there. So I am left in such a strange situation.

Hi,

Not too sure if this of any help to you. But here goes.

Pin locations at ABS control module.

ABS wheel speed sensor, left front.
Pin 16. brown /black wire.
Pin 5 white wire

ABS wheel speed sensor, right front.
Pin 9 brown / white.
Pin 10 white / orange.

ABS wheel speed sensor, rear left.
Pin 6 brown.
Pin 17 white / blue.

ABS wheel speed sensor, right rear.
Pin 8 green / black.
Pin 19 white / black.

Fuse for this component is X28-11 60A.

It goes without saying of course, just check the details I've given, and that they match your car.

John.

Hi,

More info, its any good to you.

Fuse F8 / F9 / F24 - fascia fuse box /relay - right hand drive. Location is near your

Data Link Connector ( DLC ).

Thanks John, I'll give it a try, before the mechanics rob me :) Will try to check the resistance from the abs connecter tomorrow to try to guess is there any wiring problems.

I don't know if the picture will be available, but here is the pic taken at the diagnostics place. The explanation is in finnish but I'll try to translate
C1047 - Rear left-hand wheel sensor signal is incorrect
- Continuous
C1046 - Wheel sensor rear left, the signal is missing
- Intermittent
C1052 - Rear right wheel sensor signal incorrect
- Continuous
What could these probably mean?

Hello everyone, so the situation is evolving the way I didn't want it to evolve. Have been at the relair shop today asked to check the magnetic rings, the guy was too lazy, told that we need to change both of the sensors, but he is doubted that both could go wrong simultaneously. Then he wanted to mess up in the fuse box, hence I left. The local spare part shop doesn't havd the abs sensors in the stock right now, so most probably I will need to order them. But i think the reason is not the malfunction of sensors, because today I unplugged the rear left sensor, and now the car starts with the abs light on, and does not turn off everafter. I assume that the problem is in magnetic ring, or dirt. Am I mistaken?

The hubs on an ABS punto have the Magnetic ring built into the bearing
I've heard of the magentic strips dropping off / breaking up = failure

Resistance test wont always point to a failed sensors - usually a break in the wire fails under load (ie voltage applied)

Since it says Signal Missing on both the rear sensors - i'd be continuity testing from the ABS connectors in the back TO the ABS pump connector at the front
