Hi there,

I`ve just changed the Ecu+coils brand new(4th time). Did the procedure to register it with the car and reset the engine error light , all ok , running on all 4cyl now. But now its overheating , fan starts at full power but temp is just climbing to red. Could this be a Ecu related problem or is just some tough luck that this thing happened just when I`ve changed the ecu?

Hi,
iwouid check for Airlocks, and test thermostat,

Did this car over heat before ecu and coils was changed,

ifind it weird for ecu to cause car to overheat, but iguess anything is possible,

@S&b will know the answer, :D

I can't see it being the ECU.

Needs some clarification.

But stuck open thermostat, faulty engine temp sensor?
you mean stuck shut thermostat ?

seen this fault before, turned out to be ecu from wrong type engine causing pre ignition
but before you go looking into that you need to make sure cooling system is working ok and that its is actualy overheating or just a faulty temp sensor, for what they cost i would change the sensor first as they only a couple of quid, if that does not cure it i would take thermostat out and leave it out, if problem goes away sounds like thermostat.
also you dont say if you are losing fluid or not

The engine is actually overheating and it was ok before I changed the ecu. It wasn't started for 5 days until I received the ecu and two weeks ago I went to a mechanic and changed a hose and all the antifreeze with paraflu. He did the bleeding and got the air out, and a week was ok. Then the ecu gone bust so I ordered a new one.

I`ve noticed that the radiator stays pretty cold when its overheating.
And another thing I`ve noticed is that if I`m turning the heater full on heat the temp is dropping and a couple of minutes the temp gauge is right on the middle. And even if I`m turning off the heater its ok , the rad is getting warmer and the temp is ok. I think the problem is like intermittent or something ...bad contact ? bad thermostat? I just hope is not Ecu related cause is brand new.

A few answers: No error lights on dashboard;
The fan is starting to blow after the temp gauge gets past the half point;

just cos a "mechanic" did all the bleeding thing dont assume it done properly these an be a pig to bleed they realy need to be pressure bled but you seem to have answered your own question, the radiator is cold but the engine is overheating screams THERMOSTAT
the way this works is to stop the flow of water flowing through the radiator while the engine is cold ( radiator cools engine fluid when hot but cold engine is very fuel greedy to run ) so they do this to make engine warm up quicker to use less fuel, as the temperature rises the thermostat starts to open and the radiator removes the excessive heat from the fluid / engine they can get clogged up or just give up as they work on a wax and spring system as the wax expands it pushes the sring back and opens the valve when they get old they seal can go in them letting the wax escape so it stays shut

I'd swap the thermostat for either a known good one or a genuine FIAT one (there are a lot of cheap and nasty copies here). They can suddenly just die.

My previous one was a FIAT one... -- died over winter (after only a few months...): so replaced with a Gates one, this time around. Time will tell: but I believe s and b is a great fan...!

You may need also to check the water pump after checking for airlocks and thermostat

Ok , so the first thing I will check the thermostat. I`m glad that the ecu is out of the question. I guess I`ll find the location of it in autodata. Btw , anyone knows is there any fix for the ecu problem , I`m at number 4.

If you disconnect the green plug to the temperature sensor, you should see the temperature guage drop to 0
The EML will come on and the fans will be on full speed

-Does the dash respond to this?
-It could be a faulty temperature sensor tho - it could be false reading
-stat could be stuck shut, so yes radiator would be cold as there is no movement of coolant

Puntos = Swine to bleed, i end up chucking a crap tone of fluid....

The ecu is new new , genuine marelli. After a few starts of the car the problem just went away ...maybe the ecu was a little slow bout learning/setting my car.

So any fixes for the ecu now days ? I`m at number four and I think any day now the servo is going to go bye bye also .

Thanks for support guys! Cheers from Romania , loads of puntos here!

hi
this is why i asked if ecu was new
it needs the following procedure to work your car see
http://www.cartechelectronics.com/fiat-instructions/

virginized ecu fitting procedure?

no
virginised ones play straight away
they do put up management light for first couple of starts but then clear

a new ecu needs to set up to its sensors, see it as a computer with lots of hot keys, attached (usb devices)
