I have a 1.2 8v Punto Active, which has just had the head gasket replaced. Recently when running the engine from cold I have been experiencing a short/random loss of power, normally occurring in second gear - however yesterday a big truck nearly went up my rectum as I pulled out of a turning and lost power in first causing me to stall No, this isn't due to bad clutch control.

Traveling at ~40mph I sometimes get a strange noise that sounds like its coming from the engine bay. Its not a wheel bearing type of sound, it sounds more like 2 differently pitched screeches... Its weird I don't know if this is related, but I thought I would bring it up as well..

Could be the timing belt is unhappy because either the tensioner or water pump are sticking.

i suspect timing been out?
No excessive emissions out the back?
Is ut misfiring atall?

Would the timing belt be causing both of these problems?

No ziggy, I don't have excessive emmisions and I have not misfired at all.

Is there anything else that could be the problem or is it highly likely to be an issue with the timing belt?
