Hey guys,

A couple of weeks ago I realised my passenger side dipped beam light was out... I replaced it with the correct bulb and this didn't work. Checked the bulb on the other side and it worked fine. I've checked all of the fuses for it and they all work fine (swapped them over with the fuse for the other side and checked twice).

Anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be? The inside of the unit has gone a bit misty but it doesn't look bad enough to have caused water damage or anything, and it is only the dipped beam light that doesn't work.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Adam

Have a look at the connector for the headlamp unit. The supply for the dipped beam is a black and grey wire and the earth is a black wire. Another possibility is that the plugs for the bulbs corrode and overheat.
The mist you can chase out with a hairdryer. Mostly water is getting in at the dip in the cover where the level adjuster is. The seal takes a set and if your lucky just turn it around or get a strip of draft excluder or run a bead of silicone in the groove on top of the old seal. Afaik Fiat do not sell it separately.

Agree. Worth a look with a meter if you have one to check if there is supply. Also check the relay. It should click when the lights are turned on and some (not sure about punto's) have seperate relays for each side.

Afaik there is a singe relay with a single output for both sides.

Yes thats true :)

Same for the Hi Beam and fogs :)
1 relay is then split and fused to each bulb :)

I had this problem too
driving along fine - pulled over got the take away curry - got in
Bulbs had gone
I went down same route - swapped Hi beam and dipped beam relays - no chance
The fuses - no change
Headlight clusters changed over (was getting annoyed at this point) The Fault didnt move - ie on the N/S the dipped didnt work

after many hours of cleaning testing and getting narked - i decided to yank on the wires

Go and behold - the wire pulled out the loom too easily - traced it back, it somehow magically snapped/burned out

Soldered in some new wire - away i went :)
