After months of a strange intermittent non-starting issue with my Punto, the suggestion seems to be that there is an issue with the key transmitter/receiver.

Car turns over but wont start....when AA comes out it has normally (embarrassingly ) re-set itself and does start. Diagnostics have not shown any fault (although, again, by the time they test it is starting again! )
Could it be an issue with the key receiver/transmitter? It normally happens when I park at work in an area with loads of offices and the guy who had fitted ( now disconnected ) the alarm says it could be radio signals interefering with the key.

HELP!

there is a key symbol on your dash see if this goes out
if it stays on it means key not recognised
i suggest you put key onto position where lights on dash glow put your seat belt on then crank the car
this gives the immobilisor circuit time to read your key if it is losing signal due to age /being a cloned copy

if you have ruled this out then next i would consider a crankshaft sensor intermittant and for 315 would try a new one (these wont show on a basic code reader as faulty)

Thanks I will try that with the key.
Is that £315 for the crankshaft sensor part???
Finally irony is that as I was driving to main dealer to get price for receiver, the driver's windscreen wiper broke....they have quoted £170 for parts plus £70 labour to fit!
Does not look like it is worth my while paying all this out for a car of this age, where is the number for webuyanycar.com???

I had a similar problem with mine. Key sometimes wouldn't get recognised and key light on dash would stay on.

My problem was solved by just removing all sorts of other keys/fobs attached to the same keyring that I didn't really need. Reducing the weight worked for me...
