I have jus got my head gasket done on my Punto sporting mk2
After I got it out of the garage the car seemed to overheat so I took it back to the garage, he told me that the water pump had been messed up therefore the engine will over heat again unless I replaces it.
I was driving it out of the garage and I realised that the car wasn’t performing as well as it normally did.
On 1st gear it climbed up to 2000 revs easily the suddenly lost power and climbed up sluggishly. The mechanic said that this was because the lambda sensor had been burnt out when the hg went
Is it possible or did he just do a crappy job of replacing the HG

Hope someone can help me out, thanks

sounds to me like hes done a very poor job of it and is now firing excuses to get rid of you.

any mechanic with any sense would replace the waterpump if he knew it was dodgy especially given the fact he was doing a head gasket change which the waterpump likely caused.

id get it to some one who knows what they are doing and are trustworthy.

thanks for that. i am gona get the water pump replaced but do you think the lambda sensor thing is gonna fix the power problem

lambda is highly unlikely.

timing can be hard to do on these engines form what ive read so its likely hes borked this up. does it sound lumpy at idle as this is usually a good giveaway to poor timing?

the idle seems to be fine, it idles just over 600rpm. the car drives nicely in reverse. but wen i try putting my foot down it jus wont kick. n wen i try going fast on one gear trying to reach high rpm the engine makes some kinda noise. some wooshy kinda noise? any idea

im not sure i think u mite b right but at the moment the idling doesnt seem to struggle or move around much, it stays quite still.
anyone know what i can do to fix my problem. do i have to re-do the head gasket or could it be some other problem?
