hey,
An ass**** of a thief broke into my car by drilling a hole on the passenger side. He drilled the hole next to the key hole, on the metal door, and was able to gain access. At the moment iv just used pollyfiller to fill in the hole and the keyhole works fine. I would replace the door but i was quoted around £300 and i dont fancy getting that done yet. Does anyone know how i could cover up the hole? Iv seen on some cars a black protector around the keyhole, maybe this might help?? i dunno, i dunno what there called as well.

its a fiat punto MK2 2002 1.2 i have to inquire about getting it welded, its about the size of a £2 coin. but for the time being i was wondering if there was any way i could cover up the whole completly? is it possible to buy keywhole covers? the ones that fit around the keyhole? does anyone knw the correct name or know where i can buy them?

your only proper secure option for a temperary fix is to disconnect the metal rod on the inside of the door so that even if someone sees the hole and tries to get in, the key hole wont be connected to anything,., then you can get in the passenger side for the time being, how did you not hear someone drilling a hole in your door?

dont ask, i let my sis borrow the car, she went down London and whenshe came back there was a nice little suprise for me. kk thanks for your help. And just one more thing. what should i do to the boot that has a hole drilled in the keyhole. I use the leaver in the car to open boot that way but at times it can be a real pain.

someone drilled the boot aswell?

sounds like your gonna need a new lock barrel for it and a key. scrappies, dead easy to get off, maybe £10-15? with two keys?

as for the hole best to get a new door. what colour is your punto? the code is on a sticker inside the boot lid :)
from a scrappies you shouldn't ever pay more than £50 for a good straight door in teh right colour :yum:

I had some kind sole do the similar thing to my Mk I Punto; they punched a small hole (3-5mm) through the door skin next to the lock with a screwdriver or similar and opened the car.
The thief only routed through the glove box and left, I don't leave anything of any value in the car.
I filled down the rough metal that they created as they pulled the instrument used out after opening the door, & covered the hole with one of those sticky plastic surrounds that you put around the keyhole so that the key doesn't scratch the paint if you miss the lock - look in any car accessory shop.
It's not great, but covers the hole untill a do a more permanent fix....
Eventually I will take the inner door lining off and superglue a strip of metal on the inside of the hole and fill the external & paint.

Sorry that I can't help more, but just to let you know that your not the only one this has happened too!!!
