Hi there,
I'm looking for some advice on my wife's car. She has a Punto 1.2 ELX (2000 Xreg) which has an annoying problem. Occasionally the car won't start. The starter motor is fine, going like the clappers, but the engine won't catch. No coughing or spluttering, nothing. This only seems to happen when the engine is warm, especially if she has been driving it for a little while, parks up, then comes back to it. We replaced the battery about 12 months ago which seemed to sort the problem out, but recently it has started happening again. Leaving the car for a while (an hour or more sometimes) seems to sort it out.

I'm thinking it will be an electrical problem, something to do with the choke. We took it in to a non-Fiat garage, but they could not find a fault. Is this the sort of thing a Fiat diagnostic check will identify? We've never been able to demonstrate the problem at a garage as it is very intermittent (once or twice a month).

Any suggestions appreciated
tia,
David

hi mate this problem has happened with a mates punto similar age and in the morning its fine but once warm will not start until cooled down this appears to be a problem with the immobilser not picking up the keycode due to heat messing with its internals due to maybe a faulty cover of the immobilser built into ecu try covering it or keeping it cool somehow my mate solved the problem by building an enclosure seems to be working now (y)
will keep u updated

It could possibly be that... ^

If its only when its hot then it could be a sensor fault, probably worth taking it to fiat and putting on the machine to find out for sure.

If the yellow light on the dash ever flashed there are codes to be read.

But if not then it could be lots of things.

Sorry.:bang:
