Hi everyone, I recently purchased a 2010 Fiat Punto Evo after my MK2 was rear ended. Unfortunately, there's no way to turn the headlights off since the switch on the stalk does nothing. The only way of turning them off is by switching the car off.

Having done some research, I'm lead to believe the indicator/wiper stalk assembly needs replacement due to issues with that.

Does anyone know if that's what causes the issue? I'm not sure where the relay is but I also want to check that.

If someone could advise that'd be great. Since winter and short days are approaching, its not a major issue but I'd still like to get it fixed since it just feels wrong and unnecessarily places a load on the battery.

Hi

The Grande punto had basically the same build

So there might be some info around this forum... switchgear is fairly robust.. but things do wear out

Ive got a 2012 punto no switch problems in my 8.5 years of ownership..its needed 1 bulb..still on the original battery..
Might be worth powering down system to see if it resets on reconnection of battery

This issue has struck a few 2012+ panda owners too... appears to be a software issue

Info below... Charlie

You need to take steering wheel off and take stalk off for headlights you can get inside a little plastic cover there is some minut wires usually the red wire has detached resolder...refit jobs done

I have had this exact problem. The connection to the light switch is broken so as a safety mechanism, the car keeps the side and dipped headlights on with no way to turn them off. This is better than the lights being broken and not able to turn on at night.

The cause is likely that inside the indicator/light stalk the red or black wire has snapped at the bend.

To check for yourself, you can pry out the plastic part at the back of the stalk. This is non destructive and you should be able to put it back without too much of a problem but it is a little fiddly. Once inside, give each of the cables a gentle tug to see if they are loose.

You could now replace the whole stalk assembly for about £50 with a used part from eBay. Use this video as a guide on how to do this: https://youtu.be/juzPIwWGGgQ .

If you're up for it, you can instead solder the broken cable back up, I created a bridge between the broken ends with a stronger cable as it would again be exposed to pinch point at the bend. If you don't have a soldering iron, I'm sure you'd get away with just twisting the cables together.

Thank you so much guys. I’ll check those this weekend. Indeed, I’ll disconnect the battery for a few hours before messing with the airbag.
