Timing belt. Low mileage. Advised to do after 5, not 4 years.

As title really.
1.4 8v punto evo. 2010
Doing minimal mileage. Due my 4th service. Advised by one dealer to do the full works. timing belt etc.

Went back to my normal dealer, they said not to do timing belt as its only 4-5k a year mileage, so we do them every 5 years instead of every four when you do low mileage. heavy duty/high milers would be every 4years.

Thoughts?

tbh, the vehicle has only just done 25,000 so would seem silly.

Depends on the condition of the belt I suppose, have you checked the condition of the timing belt, how does it look? You could drive your car for another 5 years and the timing belt could be fine or with bad luck it could snap next month, its sod's law.

tom555tom It's uptoo you really, I used to own a grande punto 1.4 and in 5 years from new and 36k miles later, I never once did the belt and it was just like new when I part ex it in.
Thanks tom555tom thanked for this post

well worth getting it checked,

low regular use is better than being parked up all winter, then doing 12K each summer,

oil leaks getting onto the belt will significantly shorten it's life..!!

also inactivity could cause the bearings in idler + waterpump to partially seize.. that's a major cause of premature belt failures..,
SO - if you go for a change.. get the full set done at the same time .

Yeah the vehicle is regularly used, just low mileage. I don't commute, so it's just for going to and from places. i'll try check it myself if i get chance.
