Problem returned
I now find the plug that goes into the resistor pack has melted on pins 4 and 5, resulting in either no speed on 4 or permanent speed on 4 where the two wires are now touching.
I see the cost of the cheapest plug I can find on Ebay is about £26
You can avoid this exorbitant charge by using the following method:-
(a) Take out resistor pack and thoroughly clean up the pins with emery paper
(b) solder wires about 6" long onto each of these pins, making sure the wires on 4 and 5 are sufficient to carry the heater amperage. On these two I used single 1.5mm wires from a 13a 240v cable
Use a nylon tie to strap them all together to give support so their is no strain on the soldered connections
(c) now cut of the plug
(d) join the plug wires and the resistor wires with simple inline plastic screw connectors
(e) refit resistor pack into bodywork
Job done, cost = pence
