Re: OH NO! Engine management light (and interior trim issues)

I think the problem has been this winters big freeze it has caused a huge amount of damage to the roads and I don't think the councils can really cope with it. There is a part of dual carriageway near to me that is in such a poor state that they have imposed a temporary 50 mph speed limit on it. But I don't remember the roads ever being this bad. The problem is there just isn't the money to repair them all properly. I guess they could always put another couple of pence onto petrol tax to pay for it

They put the money on petrol anyway but spend the
money feeding, clothing and housing bogus assylum seekers
who have travelled half way around the world to get the the
uk. Roads are a long way down the list.

There's a dual carriageway near me with a 100 yards of "scar" effect down the middle of the road going right down to the base, been like that since the cold weather we had a few months ago.... and because the middles turfed up the surroundings are also cracking up so its slowly getting wider, its interesting to see how long they'll wait before doing anything.

Currently its like a rally course at, pretty sure it could kill a motorbike if they didnt notice (night etc).... just wait for someone to be killed then they'll decide they need to put piggy banks ("safety" cameras) on the road.
Ive experienced alot of these bits of road that have large parts of the main surface missing aswell, possibly not as damaging but sounds horrid to drive over.

The potholes seem to be appearing all over the carriageway now though. In the past i remember them mostly being towards the edge of the road so you could at least avoid them. Now i end up in the path of oncoming traffic if i try and swerve round some

I agree about bikers - i'm amazed no bikers have been killed by it. The problem shouldve been resolved before bikes started using the road for summer.

Totally true, the councils obviously can't deal with it. I think in part it's because there's probably so much beuracracy (sp) involved in authorising each bit of work, rather than any lack of machinery or staff.

There's abit of road by us with a reduced speed limit due to 'uneven road'. It made me similarly annoyed to the 'queues likely' signs - if they know the roads uneven or a queue is likely, do something about it!

As has been said elsewhere though, they simply don't put enough money back into the roads. Thats the main reason that's putting me off voting Lib Dem - they want to cut the roads budget even further We'd be back to dirt tracks if they spend much less.

Yikes, didn't know lib dem wanted to cut the road budget... i guess they expect us all to be so stoned out of our minds on legal weed that we dont care about our cars anymore.

Must say, cutting the road budget has to be the stupidest thing i've heard.
They need to make it so councils can just repair potholes at will without so much paperwork etc & they need to make it so there workforce isn't charging higher than premium prices.... My dad & his friend work for the council on occasion and were told a couple of years ago that they have to charge 2-3x as much as they do because its making the rest of the people they hire look bad & if people notice then questions will be asked etc.

Re: OH NO! Engine management light (and interior trim issues)

I had the EBOD display this morning on my Alfa 135. Started but felt like it was only running on 3 cylinders, steering had a loud squeek on full lock too. Went round the block and was tempted to abort work as it felt so sluggish but went anyway. I've only had it a week and done 300 miles from new. Finished work and it was all back to normal. Went 'Dynamic' and scared myself sh*tless, it's sooo fast!

My Evo was I the garage on friday and they have to replace the head gasket and the cambelt. Also one cylinder was miss firing. They said the engine could go bang at any time but it's unlikely. they told me it was extremely important to keep revs low. I'd suggest you get yours looked at!

Thy only told me to keep the revs low because of this fault until its fixed, not in general. So I as soon as it's fixe it'll be fine. That said it's most likely caused by an incorrectly built engine so it was going to happen eventually oh well warrenty

Welldone. And his EOBD warning came up as did mine which was why my car was in the garage in the first place. He also mentioned it feeling like one cylinder wasn't running which was confirmed on mine. And Fiat own Alfa and the mito shares the same engines as the fiats so possibly the 135 does.

Sorry mr moderator for trying to help seeing as the circumstances are EXACTLY the same as mine

Re: OH NO! Engine management light (and interior trim issues)

Yep! My Alfa 135 has the same engine as the Evo, just in a different state of tune. As far over revving a new engine there's a rumour going around that until 1000 miles are reached the engine management restricts the revs and only gives 80% power. No dealers will confirm this though.
