Hi
Started car after couple of minutes it stopped and wouldnt start again thought might have flooded engine. Let it stand for a few hours Charged battery up managed to get it started but it wouldnt rev at all sounds as if might be running on 3 cylinders we put a code reader on it but it showed no codes.
Dont know what to look at now but have ordered new set of plugs any one had similar experience?

np, if there's no codes might just be a bad connection, but in my mind that would throw up a code, inspect your leads for damage, if you've got a meter check continuity of em, had a pretty bad misfire on my 1.1 and it turned out that one of the plug leads was pretty rusty on the inside, some wd-40 and some scraping later and it was all good.

Slipped timing belt?

When was the set last changed?

they do normally start fine and run okay ish on 3 cylinders although it will struggle up a gradient you can hear the misfire but it is fairly stable

they will start just on two cylinder. The engine judders badly and difficult to rev and cut out as you release the throttle

if its running on two its likely to be the ignition coil. The normally show up an error code but if you re start the car it auto clears.

the fact it started after charging the battery I would try starting with jump leads to another vehicle first

Most of the causes of VERY poor running will put on a dashwarning light

Misfire... causing unburnt fuel to enter exhaust being a prime example ;)

At this age the engine management is relatively crude..

My take on 'charged battery' :

Just meant the motor was spinning faster..for longer and just about stumbled into life

But no codes..or warning lights..

Fuel supply or timing..?

More info please :)

Check the timing belt. If there is any cracking at the base of the teeth it's likely to have jumped or soon will be. At least, it's a "safe" engine.

The engine has two coils firing the plugs in pairs (wasted spark). If one plug fails it often stops the partner plug as well. Fit a set of new spark plugs but be prepared to fit a new pair of coils. While you are in there fit a new cooling thermostat as they get sticky with age.

Saying all of that, ignition faults do show on the fault codes.

Hi
Changed spark plug today the car started and ran perfectly for about 30 seconds then slowed right down but kept running and would not respond to the throttle which when released caused the engine to stop.
An ideas??
