Long time lurker since we got our first Panda 1.1 18 months ago.

Had the 1.2 for a few months & had no issues, until the last few weeks.
We put this down at first to the road conditions.
Checking the fault codes at the weekend suggested a faulty ignition coil (P0202)
As the car was needed for work & not having had a chance to book it in for the repair, we kept using it. Checked the code again today before driving & P0202 was still showing.

TODAY
Had the low fuel light come on after about 45 minutes. A few miles later we stopped to visit someone and planned to get fuel nearby afterwards.
The car was parked facing uphill and refused to start.
We managed to turn the car through 180-deg so it was facing downhill. A couple of tries later it started, so we drove off and got fuel.

Took about a dozen attempts to start at the petrol station. Put this down to a possible fuel line obstruction. Fault codes showing on the OBDII:
P0202 - as expected, plus U1600 & B24D6
The radio display showed "CAMCHECK"

Drove for another 30 minutes or so without problems. Parked up for 10 minutes in a small town.
Car refused to start; lots of life in the very new battery, but not catching/turning over. Tried bump starting - no success. Checked the codes again:
P0202 U1600 U1602 & B24D6
The radio display still showed "CAMCHECK"

Tried it again after 30 minutes & the car started BUT not in "normal" mode:

The Speedo, Revs, Temp & Fuel gauges were not on. Same for the mileage LCD display, kept going blank.
...then they'd either ALL be off at once, or the Speedo/Rev gauges would be on; sometimes the Temp/Fuel would also come to life too....then a few seconds later, everything off again.

No internal lights displaying when I used the turn indicators, but they'd be working externally as normal and the audible click could be heard.
ZERO "normal" lights on the dashboard - but the handbrake/steering & another warning light were on constantly (cluster of three in the lower left)

Managed to get home.
Left the car for an hour to phone a couple of people for ideas.
Out again to check the OBDII
P0202 U1600 U1602 U1700 P0500 & B24D6
The radio display still shows "CAMCHECK"

Anyone ever had their Panda throw a similar wobbly?

Wondering if the earth strap is involved, or there is a short circuit due to the P0202 coil not being fixed yet?

Mechanic was due an hour ago (a no show) and we need the car for shuttling elderly relatives & work on a daily basis - so hoping I can get this sorted without too much delay.

Appreciate any help on what may be a very unique problem!!

U1600 often pops up when car have stood for awhile.

Take it not CAMCHECK but CANCHECK

Are you sure it's B24D6 ?

Why was the battery originally changed. Was it for new or second hand

Re: U1600 - car is used daily for to/from work plus some driving during the day & socialising/trips out after work.

Yes, typo - CANCHECK

Yes, code is B24D6

Battery was changed as it was the original & was not holding a charge too well. Had a new battery supplied & fitted at a local supplier.

Without testing the voltages across the terminals while resting, cranking and running there not much that can be eliminated.

The main earth for most of the electronic is low down just in front of the battery tray.

If you put a volt meter from the battery negative to any bare clean area of the body should read 0 volts. Faulty earth would show a voltage.

The earth then carries on to the gearbox and is the used for the starter motor. I this was faulty the starter would either not turn or not turn at its max

No idea about B24D6 but things like the Dash gauges going haywire sound like a voltage/earth supply problem. Whether that due to the battery, alternator, wiring and so on is guess work without some testing.

UPDATE - 21 FEB

No further forward with this

Mechanic came out on the 19th. Suggested trying a new battery.
Sorted out another new battery. Fitted it, car seemed ok.

It was used as normal yesterday, no hazard lights or anything

Today, used as normal. Had the check engine light pop on when used at lunchtime. Parked up at the girlfriends workplace after her lunch-break...and it's still there as it's refusing to start again.

CODES NOW:
P0202
U1600
P0105
P0024

Tow it to a scrap yard? Push it off a cliff? Box of matches??
Answers on a postcard :p

Connect a jump lead between the battey negative pst and engine block an see if it starts. If it does replace the lead between the battery, chassis and engine block.
