On the way home from work the engine hick upped and the eml light came on then a few minutes later the timing chain started rattling to made it to a lay-by. Switched it off now won't restart. RAC on way.
Does the oil pressure adjust the chain tensioner? Oil light never came on.

hi.
I believe so..,
LOTS of failure threads here , and doblo section,

top end is designed to fail sacrificially - so @£300 in parts, ;)

It was the guides rather than the actual chain that went on mine. Dez lived on and has done around 18K miles since.

Fingers crossed for you.

It's in a garage getting done. Any other car I would of scrapped but these pandas win us around!
She'd better behave herself from now on!

Update! Got bumble back last night.
The chain guide had broken up.
Luckily enough it hadn't jumped a tooth. Had a full timing kit fitted, an oil and filter change and an alternator belt. All is forgiven now! As when it went it was getting sold as soon as it came back!

Matter of interest for many members here - what was the cost of the work please?

Lol I was cross with Dez for a good while after he had his failure, but then again he followed that up almost immediately with clutch failure and brake failure and when I got him checked over another £500 of work (the total came to near £1800). The good news is he ran much better afterwards.

Similar with bumble. clutch, rear brakes then timing chain.

It took me a few months before I was back in talking mode with Dez.

My expense came within a total of two months and in that time, he probably spent 5 weeks in Donnelly's. How long between your brakes, clutch and chain? And was it the rear drums too?

Not sure why the light should come and not be able to start it if it hasn't jumped a tooth .. The tensioner is also oil pressure fed but if the tensioner piston blew out so would the tensioner Spring .... a mystery :)

The RAC man reckoned the light came on because of the slack in the chain. Cam position sensor. It seems a lot quieter on tick over so it must of gradually been going and I haven't noticed also the oil light goes out immediately on start up as it used to take a couple of seconds before it went so that maybe a symptom of a chain starting to go?? I've just done a 520 mile round trip to heathrow and it ran like a new one.

All that makes a lot of sense to me - and some useful symptoms to watch out for, giving early warning of chain/tensioner failure on Multijets. Thanks for the post.
