hi, i had a soggy passenger footwell the other day so cleared the mud and leaves out of the duck bills under the wipers, dried the carpet and sound proofing and all seemed right with the world. today its rained and after finding a misty windscreen sure enough the footwell is wet again. no puddles under the scuttle. it seems to be wet behind the left hand kick panel in the passenger [rhd car]. would this point to anything- are there other drainage holes to clear out?

thanks

Just to be safe have you checked your coolant level and is the heater working? it could be the heater matrix has failed.

If not it could just be that the under carpet was extremely wet and soaked through.

yes coolant and heater good. i ripped out the sound proofing under the carpet and dried it in the airing cupboard for about a week so it was definitely dry as a bone :) not anymore though

Old thread I know but I'm having the same issue.
When I first got the car I had a waterfall from the blocked "duck bill" issue.
So its not that.
I have recently had the AC condenser (in the engine bay) changed and the underbody waxed.
I was considering (but haven't investigated) of the drain for the AC in the cabin isn't exiting the car as I have been using it for demisting in this r bbish weather.

Check the sill drain holes and look for missing rubber plugs in floor panels. On some cars (my4x4) there are rubber plug / grommets behind the wheel arch liner too.
Thanks.
Sounds like a job for when the rain stops.
Think I'm going to have to take the carpet out again.
Went to take the sil cover off the other lunch time when I found it was wet again and got so annoyed at it that I've smashed it into several pieces!
Just fed up of owning aquariums and not cars!

The wheel arch liner has an M6 bolt into a (welded) RivNut. Maybe that's been forced and sheared off living a hole.

will have a look, but would this leave the drivers and passengers side wet?
Bizzarely the passenger side isn't as wet and behind the drivers seat is damp as well.
Got a few moments first thing this morning to get the carpet up a bit and could see no obvious place for it to come in.
The sound deadening under the pedals is dry (apart from where it meets the under carpet fluff).
Annoyingly this is my daily so just going to have to shove the carpet back down tonight and try to ignore it until the weather is good enough to have more than 2 minutes between downpours.
Also if anyone has a spare trim panel for the drivers sill............Cheers

I must say how silly!.... I am still capable of doing same thing all too regulalry, but have got a bit better in my 60's! Try counting. Dont stop at 10 keep on going... and going.... I suspect many of us have been there. The air outlets for the ventilation are in the same vicinity but I have never seen them leak. I understand the frustration. Our leaker was at least 4 years old when we bought it... complete with new boot mat, and I was staggered at the size of the hole which was clearly a manufacturing defect.

Just another thought, can you adjust the boot lid to close a fraction tighter. I an uncertain there as much milage in this, but its the latch, NOT the lock that adjusts.
