This has probably been covered somewhere, but is there an issue with late model brakes??

Had our 57 plate car three years, I self service now and never had to replace the brakes, very little pad wear over that time and every time I check them, they look perfect!

The mother in law bought a car new in 2010, she's done half the miles we have at 12k, yet the front pads have now just worn out completely and the discs look terribly scored.

There's not much difference between driving conditions as both cars are used to nip around London and I wouldn't say the M in L is a racey driver that's heavy on the brakes. I even sat in with her to see if she was hard on them or rode the pedal??

I wonder if Fiat swapped suppliers or quality on these??

It's possible that a conscious change was made, but it's more likely to be luck of the draw in terms of batches of discs. My first front set on my 2007 4x4 wore very badly and needed changed by about 12k miles. As I had plans for the car I upgraded to Tarox G88 discs instead of Fiat (more expensive obviously), but these now have 17k on them and are still in the flush of youth.

Standard discs do seem to have quite a high iron content in them and they rust very quickly. I think quite a few disks suffered during the extended winter freezes of the last couple of years and this might be the cause. Porsche Boxsters have always suffered from this too, so you're in good company!

I'd also say bad set of brake pads... My first set were the same...

My 2010 1.1 Active at 8500 miles were about 50% worn, that was the pads though no mention of the discs. I guess it is not brilliant.

I do nearly all city driving too. My car is on 9600 now and not sure how worn they are.

could have been that the first set of pads were greased up properly in he slides and the 2nd set weren't.
