There I was on the M56, when I noticed a 997 Turbo, well you couldn't fail to notice when he entered the motorway like an exocet missile.

Anyway come to my turn off and he pulls into the turn off lane a tad early. I see a chance to get ahead so slot in a bit in front. He's behind me at the lights and i'm at the front. So I go round and line up at the next set of lights in the left hand lane. Naturally he goes in the right lane.

So there we are, waiting to go. I looked over, gave him a 'nice car' type nod and noticed that he's holding on the clutch. As the lights change I thought sod it, give it a bit, so I get away cleanly. By the time I select 2nd gear at 6500rpm he is about a 100yards ahead, a 997 Turbo, perhaps unsurprisingly just literally takes off off the line. All good fun to watch mind and brightened up the drive home from work. (y)

I love when stuff like that happens. Brightens my day and reminds me - despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary - not everyone wants a gray diesel astra. :D

Always great to see a supercar being used properly, it does give you a bit of a rush, sadly I see it very rarely though!

I was worried this was going to be one of those threads where a delusional poster tells a story about keeping a far superior car honest, they're always fun!

Saw an Aston give it some a couple of months back...I was walking and he floored it and it took off like a jet!....Oh the noise! :worship:

Quite rare to see one driven in anger....

Not always delusional....There are many superior cars being driven by inferior drivers....

I remember a couple of years back, I was giving my Punto a hoof up the hill on the way home, only to have a gorgeous flat-nosed 911 come out from two cars behind me and floor it....It came up like a rocket, but as he went past me, revs screaming, there was a large puff of blue smoke and a very ominous death rattle....I passed him parked up on his phone about 5 miles up the road....:D

Stories usually suggest that the car was kept honest though, not the driver, but I agree about the inferior drivers! I read a letter in Evo a year or two ago about affording a supercar not necessarily correlating with having the skills to use one, some suggestion of driver training or education being a must for people with so much power underfoot.. interesting.

My friend used to have a Talbot Sunbeam that had been a rally car in it's previous life and was very quick (when the twin Dellortos would actually stay balanced for long enough!)....We had a great 20 mile blast following a then-brand-new Golf G60....Try as he might to lose us, the old Sunbeam kept with him....So much that when we finally got into town, as we turned off he gave us a thumbs up! You have to love that sort of appreciation from other 'knowing' motorists, doesn't happen very often! It could just as easily be met with agression of some sort now, unfortunately.

The biggest problem with driving a very quick car is that commoners don't realise how quick they are. Pull out to pass a car in the TVR and you could gobble 5-10 cars in the time a Kia Bluerinse would pass 1 car, yet they flash their lights as if trying to warn of the inevitable collision.

I've sold my Z4 btw and I'm buying my TVR back :D

I had a dalliance with sports cars a few years back when my brother and I built a Ginetta roadster with a brand new Zetec 1.8 using race induction and a race ecu. A short ratio box made it quick off the line, but it ran out of push at not that much over a ton.

However, in the traffic light grand prix it was excellent. I was sat at a set of lights and could see a car coming alongside the queue of traffic behind me. He's approaching at approximately 30 just as the lights start to change and he starts to accellerate... I set off as he was at my rear quarter, and I still beat him across the lights :D

It worked out at 300bhp per ton and would quite happily do a ton in under 20 :yum:

ahh, those where the days....

Lol....This has turned into one of theose 'The older I get, the faster I was' threads.... :D

I think 'the older I get, the more sensible I've become'

My old Landy works out at less then 50bhp per ton. 0-60... if I'm lucky :D

I've only 'owned' two four wheeled vehicles, and neither of them came with wind up windows... but at least the Landy has a roof.
