Very true, majority of old Fiat's with 13" wheels rode well, 131's, Panda's, Uno's, Cinquecento's, Seicento's etc. I do sometimes think the 319 Panda's like mine would be a bit of a better car with 13's like the 169
Agreed. Our Becky (169 Panda) on it's 155/80R13 tyres rides the bumps and potholes so much better than Twinkle, our Ibiza, on her 185/60R15 jobbies. Of course a lot is down to the suspension too but the Panda is sort of soft, compliant and comfortable whereas the Ibiza definitely "crashes" over the larger bumps and holes. Wonder what my daughter in law's "new" Mazda 2, on it's 195/45R16 size will be like?

I decided to treat myself & the Panda to a new dual action polisher as I haven't done it for a few months & also someone at work scratched the front bumper:mad: so after an entire morning doing it, it is now gleaming like it was before & the said scratch has vanished😁 I used Turtle Wax hybrid solutions black polish topped with Soft 99 dark & black wax although not perfect as some swirl marks remain a lot of the car came up a lot better but it's still really clean for a 5 year old black car

Mrs J took Becky on a marathon shopping trip yesterday. Started off going out on the A1 to the shopping centre at Fort Kinnaird. Then back onto the A1 going east and round onto the A702 city bypass, through the infamous Sheriffhall roundabout and on to Straiton and the obligatory visit to Ikea, then back through the city via the shopping at Meadowbank. She tells me she actually got Becky up into 5th gear and 60 mph on some sections of the A1 and bypass. First time she'd had her in fifth I think?

Anyway, She tells me she (Becky) behaved perfectly and I'm sure it'll have done her (Becky) a lot of good stretching her legs like that.

After polishing the Panda at the beginning of the week I fitted a pair of genuine 500 Italian flag wing badges, those of you with eagle eyes will notice that the one on the passenger side wing is in fact the wrong way round which I only noticed after I put it on, at least it's the same way round as the driver's side so it looks even on both sides😂 & then I felt the broken wheel trim after my little incident in the snow🥴 was letting it down a bit, so was looking on Partsworld & they had a 10% off sale on so I got a set of genuine K Way wheel trims for £4.50 each, a brand new spare rim & a genuine old stock exhaust trim from a mk1 Bravo which happens to fit the Panda quite well even though it looks a little bigger than it looked online, it'll do until I can get hold of a genuine Panda one.

Nothing quite as smart as a nice and shiny black car, and that's yours! Makes that Mini behind it look "grubby"!

Becky took Mrs J and her sister down the coast for a day out in North Berwick - a special place for them as they spent many of their summer holidays there. Becky behaved impeccably but unfortunately the Luca's ice cream van was not on the sea front today. Luca's ice cream is an east Edinburgh institution. The original shop, based in Musselburgh, has been on the go "for ever". Mrs J and I used to buy icecream there when we were courting! The ice cream is something very special: https://lucasicecream.co.uk/cafes/ but today there was only a generic extruding type van so they gave it a miss and went for afternoon tea and cakes/scones in a cafe instead.

One of the interesting things about Lucas, apart from the wonderful ice cream of course, is that they run a fleet of vintage and "interesting" ice cream vans:
https://lucasicecream.co.uk/events/ It's often the six wheeled, Mini based, van which covers North Berwick.

Good buys!

45 series tyres are a bloody nightmare. I ended up with 12 wheels for my Panda 100. One set on one at the wheel wrights being straightened and one beyond economic repair. See if you can go up to 185 55. A better compromise and less potho;le damage I suspect. See if there are alternative sizes in the handbook. I will not have another car on tyres of this profile. I cant afford the repair bills! No more uni directional tyres apart from the winter ones as that was another lesson hard learned.

Yup. "doughnut" tyre profile - how about a WW2 humber staff car - and definitely no rotationally sensitive tyres for me. Asymmetric tread patterns absolutely fine but I'm not prepared to live with the restriction of a directional tread pattern on a road tyre.

I've treated the Panda to some new front speakers, I think I have blown the originals🙄 as they sound distorted so went onto good old ebay & found an upgrade kit specific for 2012 on Panda's which included 2 JBL 6.5in 2 way speakers with the adapters, fitting kit & the wiring connectors to fit onto factory loom all for £68 with free 24hr tracked delivery, I bought the factory size as I do not want to be drilling holes & want to keep it standard looking, I just want decent working speakers that are not distorted so these should rectify the problem😁

Becky's going for her MOT tomorrow so I gave her a very thorough interior clean and outside wash including a wash underneath and around the wheel arches with my home made chassis spray. Then checked all lights were operating correctly and tyre pressures too. Topped up with screenwash, checked the washers were spraying correctly and wipers wiping - which was a good thing as I'd forgotten the rear window wiper blade was poor (sorted it by cutting a suitable length of rubber from an old front screen blade). Finished up by checking all other levels.

So I'll be up early in the morning so I can hand her over to Kenny when he opens his workshop. I always plan on him having the car all day and I think he appreciates this as it takes the pressure off his scheduling a bit. Usually he lets me have her back just after lunch though. Unfortunately this won't be early enough for Mrs J to use her to attend her swimming session so she'll have to take Twinkle (our Ibiza) and I'll just have to hope she (the car) returns unscathed - Mrs J always parks as close to the entry door of wherever she's going, so in amongst the careless door denters. She also thinks it's acceptable to drive around in the many 20mph zones we are now infected with in 4th gear, you can almost count the power impulses! I've tried for years to cure her of both these "preferences" but without any success - too late to expect any change now. In fact Becky, with her 4 cylinder engine, tolerates this abuse remarkably well but Twink's 3 cylinder power plant is a lot less happy - I'm just grateful she doesn't have a D/M flywheel!
