hi there, first post so sorry to drag,

bought a lil mk2 punto of my neighbor now 2 and a half years ago aged only 13 as decided i would like something different to spend my ££ on rather than the latest COD game. been meaning to join as i read other peoples theads will upload photos in dual course... but broke my colar bone so docs said no school or work for six weeks :/ so other than revision, she has my full attention.

the car 1.2 8v elx with 70 k on in metallic light blue

the car i picked up cheap as my i knew the cars 1st owner and knew it was on-route to the scrapyard since then ive had to put a new oil pump on (was only the filter but didn't know this) and i had a mint car aged 14.. with the insurance paying my parents as by having 3 cars was cheaper than there 2.

+++ more to come

so far then bought the car sorned it...

-saved for parts and got the car towed to a garage and had the parts fitted and she was MOT'd
- by the car being sat with music playing for 4 months fried ciol packs then ECU... refurbished and reapplied
-picked up sporting skirts and spioler of ebay correct colour
-again off ebay bought a detachable towbar and wiring loom and fitted it my self
-T-cut the front lights as they had gone misty works a treat not as good as new ones but worth a day and £5 on t-cuy
-was volunteering in a honda garage (makes CV look good) got a Sony bluetooth head unit and peeled of soom autoglym stickers for her

high ypo nice to see you are interested in cars, can i just comment that please make sure the wheel bolts are suitable because im sure mk1 and certainly early mk2 bolts were the same but later mk2 went to 17mm heads and shorter length shanks?
i have fitted marea? alloys to a 52 plate punto and i think they were 19mm heads like yours are though?

Ace! Wish I had a car when I was 14! Need any body work tips give me a shout!

Sutty:)

hi, 'sutty'

i think that in her early life she had a for sale bar on at the dealership is it has got a slight rust around the nears side roof bar mount  annoyingly this was not spotted until i had the seal out. so far i rubbed it down dropped balls of solder to the small hole rubbed it down and coated it in primer, i believe this has cured it for i while.

any ideas could be useful..

Thanks for viewing!!!

What made you use solder? Best thing to di is rub it down till all rust has gone and then fill with body filler. Would imagin solder isn't the best to sand to a shape such as the channel the seal sits in. Then give it a coat of etch primer and finish the repair as usual. Chances are the corrosion will come back eventually as it's near impossible to get rid of completely. Also might help if you can get to the underside of the damage from inside the car and repair and prime that too!

hi there,

was only a small hole, no bigger than a pea as a used the dermal to get the worst off! was recommend buy a body shop so, as I was doing electronics knew how to solder and have got the stuff in the garage so just a blob of solder then dremaled smooth has done a temporary cure. but you are right many people have said body filers better but don't have it and didn't know a lot about using it. but shall strip it again as the metal around the rust was pitted so could do with filling ad then smoothing.
being honest am little worried of stripping I back as I did this fix 2 years ago ad it actually had held wit no sign of coming back so don't know whether to eave t or not?

thanks for the reply as all ideas and help is appreciated :):)
