Here we go again,
105sx JTD have a problem with the wipers blowing fuses, just got cracked the windscreen fixed and now the pest won't start.
Got stuck and called out a b/down guy who told me it was the starter motor. All the dash lights etc went through the correct sequence and the battery seem to be fully charged, but I Just getting a click now and again and then nothing, Managed to bump start it and then the glow plug lights flashed for a few seconds but drove ok.

any ideas? has anyone found this out to be anything else than the starter motor.
think I might buy something else:bang::bang:

Could be the contacts that the starter solenoid closes to power the motor.
It coulkd also be a bad connection on the battery, the motor, the solenoid or the main earth lead(s).
The starter motor draws a very high current, so all the connections have to be as clean and smooth as possible, with no pitting or corrosion.
When they get dirty, or corroded, the current going through them is passing through a smaller area, which can lead to burning/pitting of that area, so you get less area still, until there's not enough and the contact fails altogether.

Doh:bang:

Changed starter motor as instructed by garage but still not starting.
Just hear the solenoid clicking and then nothing.

back out to the drive to see if I can get to the bottom of it.
Battery sitting at 12.45Volts, all lights on dash going through correct sequence but nada. Not sure what relay is starter one.

If the starter motor is clicking, then there's nothing wrong with the relay.

Fully charged battery should be 12.75 Volts OC (open circuit).

My money's on poor connection at the battery or engine earth lead as mentioned by BikeDoc.

Dave.

you got an aftermarket alarm fitted ?
Has the car had a jolt (windscreen cracked?) hence the fuel cut off , usually the car will continue to turn over though.
Will the car turn over by hand? maybe worth checking.
Normally if its just clicking then its the batt is too dead or its immobilised.

Thanks ,

you guy's were right:worship:.

Engine/gearbox earth stud/connections all rusted up.

cleaned up and there she blows(y)(y)(y). Probably should have checked that before investing in a new starter motor, I ain't taking it back off.

wooo hooo maybe get to work and back tommorrow.

cheers again.:):)

Nice one!
Give all the connections a check over whilst you're in the mood, if that one was bad it's likely some others will be too.
Give them all a good coating of Vaseline/silicone grease/corrosion preventative once you're done.
