Hi!
We have bought another Fiat Multipla (our 3rd!) but this time, it's a bit of a summer project car, which we are planning to let our 12 year old son work on (with help!)

Anyway, it's got quite a few issues, some of which are cosmetic, some are easy to sort, and some of which are potentially going to be the downfall to our dreams!

I'll start with the 'biggie'. For some reason, it will go into some gears, but not all. 4th and reverse it just doesn't want to go in to. It's a bit iffy with 5th too.
It's recently had a new clutch, and we are wondering if this might not have been done properly..(fitted by previous owner). We are also unsure if the gear problem was there before the new clutch was fitted, or occurred afterwards. We're not sure, but I thought I'd mention it incase it was relevant to the thinking!

If you can offer any suggestions, we'd be most grateful! Thanks! :)

Hi and thanks for your reply Tubthumper73!
No, we haven't tried bleeding the clutch, …it sounds do-able though, *runs off to google how to bleed a clutch!
Thanks! :)

Have a search on here as it's been discussed plenty of times in the past.Bleeding the system improved my gear change a bit but I'm currently playing clutch roulette on every journey as the biting point is almost on the floor ?

Hello! Thanks for the comments that have been left.
In the end we got our fiat garage man to come and look at it.
He took it to the garage to have a proper look…
This is what he did:
'Removed 5th outer casing, clean out, drain gearbox oil, replace cover and refill with new gearbox oil.'

He told us that the oil was black, very sludgy… and after doing the above, hey presto! We now have all the gears working! Can you believe it?
