Panda (Classic) The Camel Panda!

Hi! thanks for the info so far.

The Drivers door is completely shot, as in it turns to dust when you touch.
Also part of the lower drivers door hinge as snapped so the door drops when you open it.

Luckily there is a body shop on my yard and the owner absolutely loves the panda and has offered to repair it for me. I was sure the door needed replacing but he is confident he can chop out the lower half of the door and rebuild it.

We do need to know what colour it is, when you say "Layland 'Sandglow 361'" is that the colour of the entire car? Is it not a standard RAL or BS colour?

Welcome! :)

I know it's short notice and a fair trek, but not too late to come along to this:

It'd be a great introduction to all the lovely Panda people, but also to what these little cars can do! :)

Thanks for the invite! :)

It is a bit to soon tho, Ive got a bit to do on the car before its road worthy like replacing some oil seals.

Also reversing it back into my yard after taking it out for the first time the gear linkage arm fell off, good job it didn't fall off while driving.
Looking under the car its missing a gear linkage bush!

Sandglow 361 is the paint code and was the colour of the Camel Trophy Defenders. It's an old British Leyland colour.

Ok cool, i should have guessed that you wouldn't of settled for anything but the absolute official Camel Trophy colour, not just a close match :)

Do you you know what brand paint it is or where you got it from?

Ive found this: https://www.paintman.co.uk/shop/land-rover-sandglow/ seems like the only people who do it off the shelf.

Mate! its an absolute godsend having you to fire questions at, i hope you don't mind getting bombarded.

Hi,

I hope somebody can help me.

A bit off topic as its not about the Camel, Im having problems with my grey Sisley.

It is not starting and i think its the ignition switch. I did find a thread in which someone was having what seemed to be the same problem and they got instruction on how to hot wire it via PM. but i cant seem to find that thread anymore.

Basically when i turn the key the dashboard light turn on and i can turn the headlights on, then when i go to start the engine; nothing the starter motor doesn't turn and the headlights don't dim, its dead .

Ive taken the steering wheel, all the switches and shroud off. I've tested for a loose connection on the ignition switch.

I think the next step is to try "hot wiring" it to see if the switch is at fault.

Does anybody know how to do this? If you do can you share the knowledge :devil: probably with a PM :).

I hope you can help!

Thanks for the advice, the starter motor is positioned so awkwardly I've found it hard to get to. I'm going to spend some time over the weekend trying to fix it so any advice is really appreciated.

One thing to add, is when the problem started i was driving along and the key flipped back in the ignition switch as if a ghost was turning the engine off and since then it has failed to start.

Sounds weird i know.

Some thoughts...

If it isnt making a clicking noise when you turn the key try tapping the solenoid above the starter motor with a metal bar from the top. It might be sticking and tapping can free it up temporarily. The solenoid is the smaller cylinder attached to the starter motor itself.

If you have a multi meter you can take off the wire on the solenoid and check if it becomes live when someone turns the key.

Finally it could be the battery as there can be enough to run small electrics even headlights sometimes but not the starter. Could try bump starting car with ignition on?

Assuming all the fuses are ok?

Hope that helps!

Mine did exactly this for a while, starter motor was sticking. I used the small wheel brace from under the bonnet to bray it for a while and it'd eventually unstick and turn. It continued to play up right until the moment when David gave me another starter motor to try, and the fear of being swapped out has obviously cause it to raise its game as its not done it once since then.

Thanks For the advice, it was the starter motor after all. The solenoid was jammed but after unjamming it the motor itself is shorting. I've taken it apart and looked for anywhere there could be contact but it just keeps shorting out.
so I've ordered a new starter.

The Next question is:

When putting the steering wheel back on my Sisley i can't get the horn button to work. The horn works when one of the springs touches the steering columb but the button won't make contact with the centre of the column.

Can someone tell me if i am missing something from this assembly?

It just seems like i must be missing a component as it seems an impossibility for the button to actually complete the circuit.

I hope one of you can help, cheers R

Try cleaning out every single gap on the brush races. Graphite from brushes gets notmaly stuck inbetween bridging out not allowing to get full speed of the rottor or eventualy shorting out.
