Panda (Classic) My Panda CLX

Introduction

Hi All

I am new to the forum and the Fiat Panda scene. I have just purchased a 1993 Panda 1000 CLX she has 75000 on the clock. She is in need of some TLC as she has been sitting in a workshop for the passed 7 months unused and neglected.

At a quick glance she needs a new exhaust manifold to head gasket, two new tyres and possibly a set of new front brake pads for the MOT.

She has a few bits of trim missing, both doors at the bottom rear corner have rust scabs and a couple of small dents to sort. I will add some photo's of her shortly.

Mark

Here's some photo's

Gearbox as I said.... Halfords do a classic one. There is a drain plug and a level plug....simple.

Semi synth from halfords is ok for the engine....fill it till its full..that's what the dipsticks for. A 5ltr can is fine.

Mine fuel gauge does seems to work fine, but would not relly on it when less then 6-8 liters in the tank.
The low fuel light starts flickering aprox. about 12 liters in, than the frequency of the flash is increasing up to constant light at 6-8 liters still in.
Jerry can in boot on long runs around NY Moors is a must.
Anyway, it's better to keep the 1/2 to full level unless you suffer for the pettrol filling pipe issue due to bigger wheels.

Thank You for the replies.

Any way I have been checking Holly for other problems before taking her for the MOT.

She needs a new osf indicator bulb a nsr brake light bulb, front and rear wiper blades, The handbrakes and foot brake both have excessive travel I checked the rear shoes and drums on both sides and they seem OK so I am going to try adjusting the hand brake to see if it will cure the problem if that fails then new drums and shoes and total blead of the brakes with new fluid.

If you have the later ratchet type adjusters set them manually before you adjust the handbrake. Also, check that the pivot pin on the handbrake link inside the drum is nice and free.

Hi All

Brake light done
Wiper blades done
OSF indicator a problem the lens is held in plce bt 2 plastic headed screws the top one came out OK but the bottom has been rounded off so it out with the cordless drill to carefully remove the headand hopefully get the lens off without damaging it. Weather to bad to do anything on the brakes today.

From memory the front ones are easy. You need to break the rest of the head off to remove the lens (screwdriver and care), then pliers will unscrew the metal thread. Try the ones with plastic threads - I've lost track of how many 127 front indicator screws I've drilled out!! :bang:

Hi All

Thanks for the replies.

I have managed to get the damaged one out without damaging the lens. I have found Fiat 126 and 127 ones on ebay @£11.00 odd + postage and a second hand set on auction 6 days to run. So I will try my local Fiat agents tomorrow.

Handbrake now adjusted 2 knotches on the handbrake not binding but still have a little to much travel on foot brake for my liking. It looks like snow will stop play for a few days.

Did you manually set the self adjusters in the drums as I previously mentioned? If so you my have air in the system that needs bleeding out or a worn master cylinder.
