Update.
The boss at the dealership phoned half an hour ago and repeated that they could not wait another week and that I would have to order a completely new car to get it on a 59 plate!
His explanation was they (the dealer) has to pay Fiat "stocking charge" for having the car, and their margins in the sale would not allow them to hold for another week.

Also some excuse about the scrappage deal being allocated to this month.

It sounded like complete flannel. However I politely said no problem, I will pay you in full and give you my scrap car this month , and I would like to hold off registration /collection till 1st September.

He has now gone to look into this possibilty, claiming "it will depend on the government's rules re the scrappage "

Load of crap in my opionion.

:yeahthat:

Smells like fecal matter tbh. Just "go missing" for a week, what they gonna do?

Just say you gotto go to Timbuck Too for a week on business.
Could always have a death in the family and not be able to arrange insurance, not a thing they can do about it.

Yes but they arranged that AFTER registering the car and putting plates on it

No they didn't.

A registration number can be allocated without insurance being provided (how else would they be able to tell you your registration number to enable you to get your insurance?) but the car cannot be registered without it.

Just because a car has plates fitted does not mean it is registered.

Latest is they have agreed to my suggestion of paying for the car this week and registering/collecting next week.
They actually claimed this was a great solution to "the problem", and one they had not thought of .

I still think it is a lot of flannel but am pleased at the end result.
