Apologies if this was already posted earlier in the year, I came across this on the mini forum and thought it would be of interest to people going to shows.
Thieves are targeting show cars with trackers in order to trace and steal them! [ame]https://www.facebook.com/cossie5252/posts/1124445874287991[/ame]

Wow that is really scary to think about. Thanks for the heads up. I wonder if their is any devices or scanners that you could run over your car that would detect such a device. Seems like it would be a worthwhile safety measure if you had a really valuable vehicle.

Almost certainly there are devices that can detect phone singals and such but not likely to be available for consumers use and likely the device's would cost £1000s

Criminals are far better equiped in the UK, if they want to know where a car is they can look on the net for the reg then use the reg to find out an address with a cheap and easy to do DVLA search.

Why bother with that heath Robinson device in the pictures when you can buy a ready to go car tracker off amazon for £30~

Also the technology for detecting phone signals has been around for years and is very cheap. Back in the 90s virtually every one with a phone had a key ring that would light up if you put it near your phone, and some even had cases that would flash multiple disco lights when ever a call came in, with no connection to the phone itself

Ah yes, the humble flashing antenna on my Ericsson A1018s :p

Got mine in 98/99 from Dixon’s on gentleman’s walk in Norwich (now the white company).

Cost £100 and they tried to sell me insurance that would replace the phone if it got damaged for £100..... I took the risk and self insured. Lol

In 2000 I got posh and had a Nokia 7110 from the matrix
