When a car is sold and after it’s pdi when it is waiting to be picked up. Where is it usually kept inside in the showroom or outside in the car park. When are ‘reveal’ car covers used? Are these just used inside the showroom or are they used outside as well. Are the covers just used prior to presenting to the customer or are they for when the car is in storage as well?

Generally speaking for every new Fiat I've purchased then you will not be given a CONFIRMED pickup appointment till the vehicle has actually been delivered to the dealer and the PDI and Valet have been confirmed. Some will wait till the PDI is completed (no problems to be fixed) before booking the Valet and later pickup.

The reveal car covers can be used both outside or inside the showroom.

Cars are left with manufacturing protection (wax, plastic, bump stops, door seals, etc) till the PDI/valet stage.

For cars in the showroom it is now common practice to PDI & Valet so they are almost ready to go and just require registration and final valet.

The car covers are not ideally suitable for storage by dealers because they are expensive and many would be required. This is why manufacturing protection is/should be left in place till 24/48 hours before final sale.

Depends on the car the dealer and the storage space, when I bought my golf it was the nicest looking car they sold that month, bright purple with the roof down and top of the range model with CarPlay which no other car in the showroom had. The dealer had a separate part of the showroom with glass all round in the middle of the forecourt for collecting new cars, the car was a new registration on the 1st of September at it was registered and all the paperwork done before it arrived at the dealers, and it arrived at the dealer 2 weeks before the 1st of September, because of this and the good weather at the time, my car was in the hand over room with the roof down for the 2 days before the 1st of September with the roof down and everyone else had their cars handed over in front of this part of the showroom, I know this because I worked nearby and drove past it every morning and evening, and stoped on to see it before collecting it.

Other cars parked outside that where being handed over when I collected mine had a grey branded car cover over them waiting for their reveal. They also had bunches of flowers to give to the new owners, I didn’t want the flowers so got some accessories and an umbrella.

For the week and a bit before this it was stored inside in a Warehouse owned by the dealer a few hundred meters away and they sent me several videos of the car in the run up to hand over. One off the lorry with all the covers and plastic on, one in the warehouse with the protection removed and one after it had been fully valeted

When I eventually collected it I was working and needed to get away quick so when I went to pick it up they had the car pulled forward partly out of the showroom with the roof down and everything ready to go with a tank of fuel and fully polished with autoglym products, no cover, is already seen it so it’s pointless to reveal what I’ve already seen a dozen times in videos and in person.

When my brother recently picked up his merc GLC they had it in the showroom with a black cover and it’s very much a Mercedes thing to do the ‘big reveal’ taking off the cover which I think is silk or similar, certainly not a proper car cover.
