Well after I figured out today I spend just over £100 a month on fags  I'm going to try and stop smoking.

Been smoking since I was 15 and I'm 22 now so it's gonna be difficult  but never really liked the smell on my clothes and just started having a smokers cough in the mornings over past few months as well, I have 1 ciggy left in a packet which I'm going to have later.

I smoked for about 4-5 years, and quit about 3-4 years ago now.

I used "Allan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking" which kinda drilled the point into your head, and although I didn't realise by the time I'd finished I had no will to smoke. Just bear 2 things in mind:
1. When you put that last cigarette out, you've stopped smoking - FACT
2. Never used the phrase "given up" 'cos you haven't given anything up (y) Unless you count burning money of course ;)

I don't think you really need any reason to do it, if having the extra money helps you through then use that as an incentive, only other bit of advice I can give you is not to count the days/hours/minutes it's been 'cos that ain't gonna help. Just think "I'm Free!" lol

I've smoked since I was 14 and I'm now 20. I've had stints of quitting before but my downfall is when I've had a drink.

Its difficult to quit smoking when you still enjoy it, hence it being easier to quit in the winter when its lashing it down in the beer garden.

Good Luck...

my bro stopped after god know's how many years at Xmas after a fright at the Dr's - he used the patches, but not any self help book things. He didn't count the days... but instead saved up the money in a jar he would use for cigs to buy something for his motorbike/car. The fact it was Xmas helped as well... as someone else said - no beer gardens to tempt you to smoke when having that pint. (y)

Promise yourself a holiday or something with that hard earned cash

50 years of sin is better than 80 years of temptation. indulge yourself, you're gonna die either way.

I dont agree with that sorry...... Ive never touched a cigarette for many reasons.

My dad had a stage 3 throat cancer, when I was 5. He still lives with the side effects today, and im sure he regrets every single cigarette he ever had. Thats enough to scare anyone.

Good luck Dan (y)

everyone has a story ..........smoke or dont smoke only he can decide .....simple:devil:

wouldnt you rather NOT die of one of the many long drawn out painful diseases associated with smoking though?
yes of course.

i also dont want to die on a motorway holding my guts in my hands, yet i still drive every day.

i dont want to die from a heart attack, but i still eat fatty food.

i dont want to die getting crushed by my car, but i still crawl under it.

everything you do is filled with risk. choosing which risks to avoid and which to mitigate and which to accept is part of your individual assessment of risk.

You just need something to motivate you.

My mum smoked over 20 a day for nearly 30years and couple years back her brother got Cancer and told her to never smoke again when he died she just gave up with will power she hasn't smoked since.

you have missed my point.... ok well if you choose to accept the risks then fair enough  id personally rather die in a car crash than suffer years of pain/inconvenience.
