I can join the grumpy club now.

Handbrake cable failed on mine after 1200 miles. First I knew was when I was yesterday when I stood in my lounge on the phone and a driverless Punto coasted past my window down the road.

Rofl didn't hit someone / something did it?. Similar thing happened in my Fabia vRS coasted backwards down a bank into a white LDV van luckily it was only slight damage on mine but totally wasted his wheel arch (again luckily he didn't care).

Well it was pushing next doors wheelie bin down the road and slammed in to a Micra. The bin took most of the damage thankfully. Light scuffs on both cars, and now the handbrake on the GP matches the one on the Sei. Its just there for decoration.

That kind of thing, if it was not so serious, is pure comedy. Bad luck though, are Fiat picking up the repair bills?

They are replacing the cable and doing an investigation on it to see why ithasate through one already, but they wont pay for repairs. Not overley bothered as i've had it done for free. If I couldn't, i'd probably be very angry.

My Jan 2007 GP 1.3 Mjet 90 is going pretty well but has had the following:

  1. Console flashing all lights and no instruments working. After short drive home and a rest, sorted itself out. Dealer updated computer. No recurrence.
  2. Persistently noisy interior fan, a very quiet but a metallic squeal that you can hear over the radio. Occurs mainly when outside temperature is cold. Not reported to dealer (yet).
  3. Yesterday, indicator stalk became very sticky (resistant to pressure), cannot indicate left without pressing so hard the stick actually locks into continuous left-indication mode. Right quick indication still no problem. Will report to dealer if it persists. Where's my WD40?
  4. Turbo (big pause) lag. Design flaw. Considering Angel ECU remapping.
  5. Disappointing mpg. Getting around 46mpg. Might be partially because car is still new (3,000 miles) and because I am still playing with the mid-range power! Hopefully my driving style (and the mpg) will settle down soon.

Satisfaction score: 7 out of 10. (would be 9 out of 10 but for the turbo lag). We'll see how it goes over the summer!

Picked mine up mar 22nd and I have squeaky brakes. Back and front after coming back from the dealer.

No, I took it in last week to check the brakes, and now both squeal.:bang:

Geez I thought I had problems.. guess I should be grateful that I don't have many of the problems listed by other GPers..

Well the cars going on Monday, so heres the problems I've had in 12 months on my GP 1.9 Sporting.

1)Indicator stalk broke as I pulled out the dealers on the day I collected the car.

2) Dials stopped workingand all the warning lights came one, only happened twce within a month of having the car, has happened since.

3)Glovebox became so misaligned, could put things in to it without opening the lid.

4)Rear brake whine.

5) Glow Plug warning message and light on startup, fixed at the 2nd attemp.

6) Sometime when cars started the power steering doesn't work and have to turn off and restart, dealer can't find anything wrong.

7) Under hard accelaration, changing up from 2nd to 3rd, occasionally there is a momenary loss of power and then the engine picks back up. only seems to happen once and then doesn't occur again for a few days.

and finally all 4 alloy wheels are show patches of white corrosion around the fiat badges, been waiting 2 weeks to hear if Fiat are going to authorise a claim for 4 new wheels.

Bye

So you waited 12 months to have this fixed? If its broken all this time, then how did you use the indicators?

This wheel corrosion business has happened with a few other owners. Do you know if it's caused by some kind of wheel cleaner/detergent you use or if it's a manufacturing fault?

not sure,I've only ever used acid free wheel cleaner and soap and water.

I noticed that the GP Sporting tends to come with 2 different types of rims. Is the corrosion problem occurring with one type or both?

A minor thing I have noticed with a lot of the cars at the local dealer is that the gear lever boot tends to split open at the stitching.

Troy.
