Hi all, there seems to be stiff gear changes now and again, clutch it fine, but should there be any movement at all in the engine mounts? This is the drivers side,

There has to be some element of movement otherwise your car would shake to bits..well probably not but im sure you get me..
The gear cables themselves dry out and can cause friction..Theres information within the forum re this and how to fix it..

I did rock the engine with hands and there was about 1/2 inch movement in that mount (not sure if that’s normal movement)

I did look at the 2 gearbox cables (gearbox end) and noticed the exposed metal did look rusty, I tried some wd40 but I’ll have a search on the forum for the fix, Another question I have is, the cables on the gearbox end I noticed the ball joint sockets are plastic with some sort of adjustment spring to adjust the cable length, But looking on shop4parts they look like metal sockets, My question is we’re they plastic when the cars left the factory and then fiat upgraded the part to metal sockets? What I’m wondering is the cables could be the original ones and there all rusty inside, only way to tell I suppose is to pop the sockets off the gearbox end and see if the gearstick still feels stiff

One of the reasons for using Bowden cables is to eliminate the unwanted relative motion of the gear selector and the selection lever: the cables being clamped on the gearbox itself it doesn't matter if the powertrain moves in the engine bay. So the mounts are not responsible for the gear change stiffness. But 1/2" hand move is definitely way too much!
As far as the pictures show, your car is not looking over-pampered... Have your 3 engine mounts renewed, install new gearbox cables and you'll be surprised of the changes!

Great info guys and that video is brilliant, (couldn’t understand the language but that didn’t matter.)

What I’ll do first is buy the cable that goes up and down as well as the gearbox oil and see how it goes, Really appreciate it ?

Just a quick update, I thought I would have ago at adjusting the left to right cable today on the gearbox, it’s definitely adjusted from we’re it was previously and gear changes seem slightly better, but I haven’t told the Mrs I’ve adjusted it so I’ll see what she says when she drives it,

What I did also notice as well is when I press the clutch there is a creaking/squeaking noise, It’s 100% coming from the clutch slave cylinder, so I’m guessing it will also need a new one of these,

Am I correct in saying it’s only 2 bolts and remove the fluid hose and it’s off?
