Hi guys,

Long time reader, first time poster. I have a 2006 GP Active 1.2 8v petrol. It's my 3rd punto in 10 years and it's probably the nicest one I've had. My partner found it for me and it's been my ride for just over a year.

It's recently developed a small starting issue in that sometimes it will start first time but with a small pop, other times (and most often) it takes 2 attempts to fire. I have today, replaced the air filter (had to remove the box anyway), the spark plugs and the ignition leads and just had to pop out and it's still took 2 attempts to start so the new plugs and leads haven't solved it.

Anyone have any thoughts that could point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Steven

Hello, and welcome,:)

ever had the cambelt changed ?,
others report weird starting stuff after it's all been disturbed,

using a codereader MAY just point to something too, ;)
so it runs o.k., just has an odd thing while starting.., :idea:does it do this starting when warm , as well as cold..??,

Hi Charlie,

Cambelt hasn't been done whilst I've had it but I believe the garage I got it from gave it a complete once over before I picked it up. The problem only seems to occur from that first cold start in the morning. Once it's had a run its starts perfectly. Does it have an automatic choke? If so, I'm thinking perhaps a sensor??

Battery? Cold weather kills them. What voltage does it read when off and then when running.

Hi Mark,

I popped into my local fiat garage this morning and spoke with one of their technical guys about this. They checked the battery and told me it was as it should be. They suggested plugs and leads but they are already done so have been ruled out. They also suggested removing the map sensor and giving it a quick clean and if that doesn't make any difference then to maybe look at the coil pack. If that still doesn't solve it then I would have to leave it with them overnight and they would put it on a code reader and see what it's reporting (if anything).

Anything there sound possible?

Have you checked the two pipes that are attached to the airbox. Both the small and big one rot through and cause starting problems

Hi DGPunto,

Yeah the large breather pipe was replaced when I got the car as it was split so covered under warranty. The small pipe looks ok and in pretty good condition from what I could see when i took the air box off to do the plugs and leads.
