Technical Intermittent starting problem

I have a 2008 Fiat Punto. Always been a great little car. Low mileage. Never let me down.

Over Christmas it developed an intermittent problem starting up.
Most times it will start ok.
Sometime it will turn over and try to start without success.
Sometimes I turn the key and....nothing.
It always starts eventually (so far).

Got the AA out and of course it started when they arrived. They did say to get a new battery, so I did.

Problem persisted.

Got the AA out again and of course it started. They suggested the starter motor, so I had a new one fitted.

Problem persisted.

Took it back to garage and they said they found a wire that was split so they repaired it.

Problem is still persisting. The annoying thing is that it always eventually starts (so far) so nobody can actually diagnose anything.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm female btw, so I need things explaining to me in simple terms I'm afraid

In simple terms, folks that "diagnosed" and "repaired" your car are clueless.

Simple things to be ruled out: main "earth" and other electrical connections (main fuse box for example).

I thought I'd report back. Turns out the issue was a faulty key and immobiliser. This resulted in me needing a new key.
