But when he left the car, she was in the passenger seat.

She then switched and took it for a joyride - only stopping when he came back.

exactly. but police don't look at it that way,
they wouid of nailed her because shes in drivers seat and been seen driving it.. ilegaly,

its his own stupid mistake for not spilling the beans,
he stuck up for her,. so in police view hes allowed her to drive it,

so hes done his job,

idont agree on car being seized tho, A fine and a severe bolocking wouid of been all it needed,.

Wait if this was on mcdonalds car park isn't that private mcdonalds property where an unlicensed, uninsured person can drive legally (with a licensed person in the car of course). But can the police legally fine him with it being on a car park?

Ah so he sat in the passenger seat and let her stay in the driver's seat? I can see that might be interpreted as giving concent. Had he opened the drivers door and yelled at her then perhaps the whole thing would have worked out differently.

So were there any points involved in all of this? If not then if she paid the fines then he'd be back on even terms. Seems the fairest outcome to me.

Oh and what was the parking ticket all about?

Yeah that bits fair enough but I would have grassed her up straight away, no way would I pay any fine for someone I trusted taking my car for a joyride.
FatherJack I agree mate.

I have to say may be the police did take a heavy handed approach but the officer probably knew you were covering for her.

I hope this lass is going to help you out with some cash. Or are you playing the long game and hoping to have a relationship with this lass.

yes,

Can I drive my uninsured vehicle on private land?

FAQ
The Road Traffic Act states that any person who uses or permits a vehicle to be used on “a road or other public place” must have the minimum of third party insurance cover.
You do not have to have insurance if the private land is an area to which the public do not have access. However, you would need insurance if the vehicle is on private land to which the public do have access. This can include “private” car parks, campsites, private estates etc. The term “public place” is far more wide ranging than most people appreciate.

Think the rules apply to anywhere the public are allowed to go. If it were private land but with no public access then it would be a different matter. That's my understanding of how it works anyway.

On the bright side they could have put 6 points on her licence and yours IIRC use and permit carries the same points.

It's ok complaining about it but what would you want to happen if a random unqualified -uninsured driver hit your car whilst you munched your big Mac ? Or hit you walking across the car park?

Wow I don't usually get this many replies haha, but i'll do my best to reply.

What were you fined for? How is that your fault? ? ?

Hes most probs been fined for letting a unlicenced/un insured person drive car,
if it was consented,
Which is obvious or other wise she wouid of been done for T.W.O.C.
!Get her to pay your fine as you didn't grass her up it the least she can do,

id keep your documents handy,
you might get a few tug's in the nearfuture now that you've shaken the wasp hive,

Main problem I can see is just what terrible timing it was, she stopped the car, I thought nothing of it, I jumped back in to the passenger seat still thinking nothing of it, the car was parked. But he had seen everything, and he saw me in the passenger seat, with her in the front, hands on the wheel, car turned on.

Sorry no sympathy from me. The sargent wasn't being a dickhead just doing his job. If you had left an unlicenced person in charge of your car then your the dickhead. You could have dropped her in it, but then as you say she was rather pretty and you would have had no chance if you'd done that. I hope shes worth all the extra hassle your going to get till you sell your car.

Shes of no intrest to me in that way haha :D I didn't cover anything up, i said what had happened and that's the action he took, I actually said to her as we drove over to some sort of police operation looking for 'unroadworthy cars' that if worst comes to worse you will be taking the full hit of this, I'm not loosing my licence and car for you.

Police have the power to impound any vehicle that is being driven uninsured (the girl was uninsured), thats been on the books for a few years now.
Unfortunately correct.
Agreed with you.

You'd have more sense than to stick the keys in the ignition and let an underage driver take your car.

Must've been a field day for the Police who seemed to have gone on an over reaction.
But in the grand scheme of things, if this young lad tells his mates, they won't do it next time in their cars. Could save an accident in the future. (y)
Indeed I'll be keepin my keys to myself, was honestly just to the radio on, my friend have trusted me with their keys lots of times before especially before I passed my test, I'd never do something like this personally.

idont have to argue that out with plod mate,
as its not my car, no reason too,

if it where me iwouid of just gone through drive through why walk,
not that ieat that garbage anyway lol,

alls iwas trying to point out is that it don't add up,
Drive through was packed, easier and quicker to go inside, and i wanted to get out the car anyway, I had been driving a lot that day for family and stuff.

I don't think so, shes got nothing really and I've got the ****. I probably won't get the money, but I have a job, I can recover, stuff like this happens I suppose. All part of owning a car maybe, that's my view on it anyway

I wasn't covering up anything! Was being honest with him, I suppose he went off what he saw though, not my fauly really not much I could have done. And nope, id take the money off her in a breath if I had any chance of getting it haha.

I suppose it's a good thing than no one came out of this with any points :)

At the very least, she should pay for the McDonalds....,

Seriously though, I've always taken the keys with me when I've left my car.

Radio still works and is lockable via the dash.

Whilst I'm not going to comment on the actions of your friend or yourself (I think enough other people have already), I am going to say that I think it's absolutely disgusting for a picture of your car to be uploaded to such a huge page as Incidents on Teesside to be ridiculed. Of course, they will want to deter this kind of thing from happening, but in doing so they have made you and your car (a fairly recognisable one I might add) personal targets for scum to go for. I really really hope your car doesn't get messed with, or you get abused on the road, as a result of this.

I have an aftermarket stereo that needs the ignition turned on to work :) runs on a perm live or something like that

Most aftermarket stereos have a built-in timer, like the OE ones, that allow it to be turned on independent of the ignition, and it turns itself off some time later, usually 30 minutes or 1 hour. If yours does not do this, you may have wired it wrong. Search for threads on this subject, there are a few.

A while ago you were posting about hitting a roundabout, but that wasn't your fault either.
