I have used red dot and they were very good.

Don't bother telling your insurance, not worth the sky rocketing premiums for something they won't find.

Re: Re-Map

red dot, Il look into it

did your map give you the 177 ? Look at the torque figure :wow:

I guess its a pretty noticable difference on the road then, there any negative points? reliability issues, warrenty issues ect,

Thanks :)

Yes those figures from the map, others who have used red dot have seen higher figures, the only drawback is the smoke that billows from the back, can be a b*stard to keep clean especially when wet. But yes well worth it and a massive difference on the road, do it ;)

Re: Re-Map

I would say tell the insurance company, especially if you are posting on a public forum - do you have forum stickers on as well? :chin: Do you think insurance companies are that naive?

To declare the remap on the 100HP, once the actually sort it, will only cost me £40 additional premium - cheap, for peace of mind.

Re: Re-Map

ive noticed I hardly get any smoke out of mine at all, When we talk smoke are we talking smoke that looks like its knakard or a large puff ?

how much do they retail at?

Im veeeeeeery tempted, for the motorway miles I do

I don't have FF stickers, and i've never posted a picture of my GP with my reg on it so I think i'm safe.

I wouldn't worry about the smoke the pros outweigh the cons.

Re: Re-Map

Nahh i dont have stickers, no pics of my car on the net

do you have a link to red dot?

Hey people,

Just bought 06 Reg Orange Grande Punto Sporting, well impressed:D. I was just snoopin around when i come across some of the claimed modification results.

I know you lot are saying you should go to a tuning shop but currently on ebay there is a tuning kit available for £149.99. Says i cant attach the link until ive got 5 posts but the kit is provided by 'diesel tuner'. Its basically just a plug and play by the looks of it and it claims it can get 165bhp with 360nm of torque.

Just wondering if you could advise me on it being any good?

Cheers Ash

Sounds like some sort of tunit box.
Not sure if we have come to agreement on them yet. :)

Some people are saying they are just as good as a remap and offer other advantages. Others say they are not specific enough in the way they provide their power. So can infact eventually damage an engine.

I'm no tech so usually stay out of it. :)

Okay, cheers people.

Looks like ill be looking into the re-map after xmas. What the issues in terms of removal if you need to 'get rid of it quickly' ;) if you get my drift?

Ahhh, this old chestnut rearing it's ugly head again. I am having the same thoughts as you Anthony but with a bias towards keeping the car standard for many reasons. Take a look at the m-Jet??? thread posted by steve_24_7.

If you do decide to do it I would strongly recommend you invest some time talking to these guys.... http://www.superchips.co.uk/

Even though you will probably pay more than other companies Superchips are very well respected and are careful not to tune the hind legs off of your pride and joy. Most importantly they will essentially 'take on' your manufacturers warranty if your cars mechanics are caused damage by the remap.

If anyone is thinking of throwing insults at me for passing on this advice...please don't. I am simply relaying my findings after speaking to 4 different companies by phone and Superchips were by far the most enlightening.

I’m not going to throw insults at all that’s not how I am. But you’re not stating fact again. Most remapping companies will do the same as far as warranty due to the fact they will HAVE to have 'Professional 3rd Party liability insurance' I’m pretty sure this is required by law. This is in case any damage happens to customers property either accidental or by negligence. I have the same when I'm working on Computer Server Equipment and while on ‘3rd party’s premises’.

Im sorry to say it but Superchips are a rip off. £550 notes to remap a Golf GT Tdi..... thats without the rolling road charge! :bang:.

Hi I also got my gp remapped from red dot now pushing 182.7bhp just wondering should this cause any problems?
