Hi all,

Me and a friend of mine did some testing with our cars..
He is having a Seat Ibiza from februari 2007, 1.9Tdi (about 1850cc) 100HP
I'm having a GP, 1.9JTD (about 1950cc), 130 HP

We started racing next to each other, but he was faster then me!!
We did some more testing..Both airco off, both filled gas in same gasstation..
Now he was even faster..

We switched seats (I drove his Seat ibiza), and indeed, it has more power then my GP (although mine is 30HP more)

Is the GP so much heavier? are Fiat engines bad?

GP 1.9's are heavy, my tyre fitter told me so!!

I drove both these cars before buying the GP. GP looks nicer and felt as good if not better finished. Cant say the Skoda felt quicker but if speed was all I wanted I wouldnt go for either car. Get a motorbike!! :slayer:

Seriously, there is more to life than speed, especially on the public Highways wherever we live. :)
My 1.9 GP is quick enough, safe enough (NCAP) economical enough (50mpg) sexy looking.... and cheap!! Probably even more than that... but is a GP perfect?
Nope... Characterful?... Yep! (y)
Skoda Fabia... my kids hated it (17 and 20yrs old) so its got no cred (n)

cant understand that one mate 30 bhp is a lot of extra oomph i had a go with a polo tdi red t & d think thats round about 100 bhp if not a tad more and was well ahead so you got me?as foe car weight i would think their wouldn't much of a difference.maybe some else on the forum will come and shed some light on the subject some horsepower boffin:)

DOH!! Well I am busy... thats why I wrote about a Skod Fabia instead of a Seat Ibiza!

Anyway... It was a Fabia I compared the 1.9 GP with and I stand by my feelings, didnt do a stopwatch or anything.

As far as the GP 1.9's weight goes, heheh I had to ease the GP up so he could get the jack under it for starters... then he huffed at it when the lifting point was reached after the suspension had extended fully lol!

Anyone else any thoughts on the GP 1.9 vs Seat Ibiza 1.9?

This certainly is a mystery to me. I test drove the Ibiza 1.9 FR with 130bhp which was quicker but it wasnt a massive difference. The Ibiza you refer to weighs 1236kg, the GP is lighter at 1205kg. The Ibiza is 98bhp, the GP is 130bhp. The Ibiza has 177 lb/ft of torque, the GP has 207 lb/ft. Nothing adds up.

The only thing i can put it down to, and even that is grabbing at straws, is the fact that the Ibiza only has a 5 speed box and it could be geared more for acceleration. None of the official figures suggest the Ibiza is quicker though.

I think there must be something seriously wrong with yours my friend.

Rich

the fabia is a second faster to 60 8.5 as for the weight issue i would say the fabia isn't much lighter than the gp i think the gear ratios in the fabia are shorter it revs out at 6k where the gp tops at 4k

If you are talking about the Fabia vRS then that is certainly a quicker car. It has loads more torque and was produced to be fairly rapid.

I have no idea what's wrong..The car drives pretty well..But it drives like a 100HP instead of 130 I guess...
But what to do about it? If I go to the dealer he'll probably say Seat has faster engines or something like that..I don't think he'll say;: ow yeah lets make it faster under warranty..

Lets just clear things up here....

The cars are a Seat Ibiza TDI 100bhp Sport vs a Fiat Grande Punto 130bhp Multijet Sporting? Faster NOT A CHANCE!!
If you've driven the Seat Ibiza TDI 160bhp Cupra then I'd say for sure..

There is also the Seat Ibiza FR 130bhp which is slightly more torquey..

The TDI Engines are a lot older engines than the M-Jets and are therefore much heavier

In terms of Skoda Fabia VRS 1.9 TDI 130bhp - I believe that may be a tad faster as it is a little lighter than the Seat 130bhp

And the biggest engined TDi in the Polo is the 1.9 Tdi 100bhp Sport which again will be slower...

Out of all 4 marques, Id have a Remapped M-Jet Grande Punto... Not just cos I'm biased but you get a hell of a lot of car for your money ; the styling inside and out is a lot better and fresher 0000000000 and its gorgeous for a supermini! + 5 star ncap

So what you're trying to say is that my multijet should be faster?

That the M-Jet will be faster than the 1.9 Tdi 100bhp...

The 160bhp Tdi obviously it won't be faster (sorry I said that in a confusing way - it made sense in my head ! :p ) but add the remap to wack it up to 170bhp and it'll be eating Cupra's for breaky!

As I indicated in a posting elsewhere, I used to run a SEAT Ibiza 130 and it was definitely quicker (though not by very much) than my current GP 130. As well as being quicker it was nearly 10 mpg more economical. Those VW PD engines are very torquey and economical but a bit rough. The engine in the GP is happier to rev though and provided you don't mind the noise and run it to 4500 rpm or so it is pretty lively. The GP also handles better as the SEAT feels more nose-heavy. I'd be very surprised however if a SEAT 100 was as quick (unless it had been remapped or chipped).

Was gonna say i've kept up with fabia vRS's before and driven them, its definately a bit quicker and feels as if it pulls harder mainly due to it having 310 Nm torque standard. But its not that much better/faster to justify being insurance group 9

A standard fabia vRS cant really touch me anymore though so oh well :p

Your car should be a lot faster than a 100bhp seat ibiza diesel! sure they havent fobbed you off with a 1.3 mjtd ;) :p lol

I'm 100% sure its not a 1.3 but I'm thinking about the 1.9 - 120 HP maybe?
Is there any way I can know this for sure?
I already changed dealer because the dealer I bought my GP is a retard :)
I do know I pay my insurance for a 130 HP (n)

Also when breaking on a downwards road, it makes a rattling noise..Anyone else with this?

:yeahthat: - style, reliability, resell value, image, etc etc..

If you want to kick a$$ then why not just get a Skyline?

spot on. I used to own and run a fabia vRS (for 80k!) and out of the box its quicker than the GP sporting, (the GP handles much better, and has better brakes) but it's the way the engine delivers that is suprising, the PD130 engine has one great big lump of torque, and it hits you in the back with a big shove, (one lump 2-4k of power, nothing before or after!) the Multijet is alot smoother and more progressive, so the vRS will always feel faster, but there's not alot in it....

now I have th GP remapped, no contest :) it feels much better, and goes as well as it looks now (y)

edit:the PD100 remapped (or tuning box) will give 140bhp... I've seen this proved on RR's, and at meets (with a friend who had one)

man i am confused by this lol.
i thought we were talking about the ibiza vs the punto so why so much talk about the fabia :p

Also I wondered if there was an obvious way to tell the difference between a 90bhp multijet and a 130bhp multijet engine as sometimes my car feels slow compared to my dads 2.0 tdci cmax even though it should match it spot on. Is there anything externally i can look for

you don't get 90bhp sporting just 130bhp,1.4 petol,120bhp eleganzas.the badge inside the drivers door frame tells you the engine size and bhp,as does the red multijet badge in the front grill.no other model has the red multijet badge.as for the c-max 125bhp?? itshouldnt be any faster than a 1.9sporting.
