If things don't work out and the cinq isn't ready in time for Cupar you're welcome to grab a lift with me if required. I'm heading down Sunday morning and will probably be going through Dundee at about 8-ish

Thanks, Though i do think it'll still be ready... it just means i'm going to have less time to make it look nice and test reliability etc, hoping to get a good run at it this week.

Got a few wee things done tonight, Thermostat fitted, throttle body swapped over for a bigger one off of a brava 1.6. The bottom part of the inlet is now on. Stripped down the last yucky bits off the driveshaft cups too.

Stripped down the cinq loom, chopped off the d4 with spare wire, so that's all ready to go together onto the punto loom, just need to prep the wires to connect them up and re-route the ecu plug to the other side of the bay/extend a couple of wires.

Really, with that gasket (which i'm assured will come tomorrow, we'll see), i'm probably one days work away from a test fire up....

famous last words

looks a lot more chaotic than it really is at the end of play tonight

Still looks a hell of a lot better than the last time I saw it in real life  Good stuff and looking forward to seeing it again in a couple of weeks time

And the award for least difficult achievement to have made goes to......

To be honest, last time I saw it I wasn't sure if you'd ever put it back together as it looked like such a huge amount of work. I'm really glad you have though

to be fair, the hardest part seems to be getting fedex to actually deliver the gasket i need

Just went apeshit at their customer service, we'll see how effective a rolicking was

not sure i hold out much hope though considering the problem seems to be that they don't know how to operate this high tech recent invention called a door.... Or is it they can't be arsed getting out their van in case that door is locked? (which it isn't, not that they'll find that not bothering to try)

Maybe doors are so complicated to them they don't know how they work on their van either.

What it is, is they receive their training from Yodel.
They know how to open their Van door, but when it comes to a door that isn't their van, their house or their Depot they come unstuck & just put a 'Sorry we missed you' card in the entrance hall, as unfamiliar stairs also confuse them.

Ah, still not out for delivery, tomorrow is now the claim.

Let's just say my gasket has blown in a big way...

Edited for accuracy ;)

Well it got here.

Spent the afternoon (well what i could in between thunderstorms), putting more together. Timed up etc.

hit a few issues, most of my coolant hoses are missing and my throttle cable is being a pain, just a touch too short so the throttle isn't retracting fully, so if it starts, it's not going to drop to idle, might need a slight redesign of something on how the cables mounted to get it to work fully.

tomorrow will be a BIG day though... all things going well, it's ready to throw parts onto

i "think" that's it out of the SICD :( had a few setbacks which have probably put a minimum of 4-5 days delay on it running. It's going to be stupidly tight, it's still not impossible it'll make it but the fact is that even allowing for no issues, i'd be having to drive it to Cupar pretty much right from the mot station, in other words, untested over any kind of distance.

It's out of my hands tbh, it's all in finding parts and getting them delivered in time to be fitted in time for an mot and hoping other places turnaround times aren't long.

Arse!

and feeling slightly guilty because I posted the teaser in the cupar thread

Don't forget there's the offer of a lift if you want to attend anyway plus there's always Panda camp and WCR

Thanks... it will make some events this summer, that's a certainty. I was just saying about an hour ago that with the parts i now need, there's probably only 2 days work, tops. (and the parts in question aren't even that big, they cost pennies, frustratingly. but are unfortunately important unless i fancy a very messy breakdown or several) It really is that close, but now ordering parts at the weekend... Monday until it's processed, probably Wednesday til they get here, even with it as ready as i can get it up to that point, we'd be looking at something like

Build Wednesday and Thursday (providing no further issues...)
Mot Friday + finishing touches
Test it all works properly on Saturday and clean if it does
Sunday SICD.

I've not given up trying, but yeah.... it's v unlikely, especially as it hasn't even fired up yet!... it's close to doing so, just not quite close enough, but we'll see what happens!

Progress is slowed up waiting on bits, basically going to shorten work done to bullet points

-Headlights and indicators fitted
-coolant resevoir in place
-coolant hoses in place (more or less)
-Handbrake cable fitted
-drive shaft tripod fitted and gaitor replaced.
-wiring loom in test worthy state (only needs a couple of wires extended then wrapped for full instalation)
-Cinq speedo drive set up
-lots of lining up and testing of parts to find out what else is needed
-old front shocks stripped down to source upper parts for new shocks

Bad stuff that has happened
-realising i don't have the correct fuel line connector for either rail i have
-still unable to fit drive shaft cups due to lack of retainers (may have made a solution though)
-first exhaust plan failed
-lining up rear of exhaust mid section caused a hanger to snap off the pipe, causing a hole. Will get it plugged and welded back on at local welders when i take them my downpipes to be modified to make second exhaust plan work)

Basically that's it for now

-exhaust dropped off at welders.
-gearbox cups FINALLY locked in.
-fuel rail bolted up
-inlet manifold removed (mostly for access to coolant pipes

next steps

-put drive shafts into cups with grease and secure gaitors
-fit suspension
-refit rear calipers
-adjust handbrake
-modify lower coolant hose from matrix
-prep fuel line
-put loom into place for test

all going well, hoping to hear a vroom Wednesday ;)

haha thanks. Need to check a few things work on it long before it moves anywhere... if it starts then it'll only be for a few seconds just to check that A) it does indeed start and B) there's no obvious leaks. So we'll see :)

Been a few delays again, but still MAHOOSIVE progress tonight, only got 3 hours on it, but the amount done was closer to 2 days worth!

- Exhaust collected from welder and fitted, front to back, system is complete!
- Drives hafts fitted
- inner cv joints greased and gaitors secured
- Gearbox filled with oil
- engine filled with oil
- fan swapped onto new rad, new radiator fitted
- coolant pipes extended and secured (bar the one to the inlet, which isn't on yet)

Then ran out of light.

still, not a bad few hours :)
