you'd probably have to put a relay in for the lights or it would upset the ECU bulb failure system if yours has one (if you dont know unhook one of the side repeaters and stick the indicator on if the car cries blue murder and a little amber lightbulb symbol comes on the dash) im fortunate i have a towbar relay already installed so the strobes are going to the reversing output

ive put a guide up in the grande punto section on wiring a 7 way bypass relay its easy enough to do....

I will admit i know s0d all about the dolbos wiring however if you only want to add a reversing sounder you just want a bog standard front Fog lamp type relay...

pin 30 to a supply via a fuse (either from the battery or something like a rear fag lighter socket or back fuse box supply)

Pin 85 to Earth,

pin 86 onto the reversing light live wire (mines white on the grande punto ) ((although there is another white wire in the loom))

Pin 87 to the sounder/ stobe or both

for a diagram of the relay...

ive just put the wiring in mine to run the strobes when they arrive and ive taken an additional live to run it though a On-Off-On toggle switch so i can have it ON when the reversing lights come on OFF for MOT time (dont know if it would fail but taking no chances or get an arsey copper and ON from the constant live supply in case i breakdown or need to have them on when not reversing....

Now THAT's a good idea.

My neighbour works on the railways (maintenance) and drives an enormous wagon, huge yellow thing with a couple of yellow beacons on the top and a huge footplate sticking out of the back which can be used to lift stuff.

He was parked up doing some repairs, beacons rotating, hazards flashing & a woman still managed to drive into the back of him - claims she didn't see him:eek:

I'm seriously considering a towbar, they are a useful piece of kit - carry bikes, pull a trailer, protects the car when people reverse into you etc.

BTW, anyone still reading this know of a good way to get the scratches out of the plastic trim? I'm wondering if Brasso will work - I use it on my watch when the 'glass' is scratched, just wondering if there is some way to 'melt' the scratch to blend it back (chemical / heat ?)

As for the scratched plastic some prat scratched the bumper of my gp i used a touch up stick of paint though an Airfix kit style airbrush after heavily masking the area so i only sprayed the scratch i built up the layers so it was slightly proud before carefully using a drop of rubbing compound (watch your surrounding paint as it scratches the lacquer before finally t-cutting it back (the lacquer wont spray i've tried :( )

The fitting of those amber lights themselves are not illegal, however they are only allowed to be used in certain situations, warning purposes etc. so they wouldn't fail an M.O.T. until questions were asked about why they are connected to your reversing lights.

Why not make things simple and just put them on a switch, when you reverse just remember to switch them on :)

And as far as the plod are concerned, if you did have a police officer who has had a bad day, technically they can fine you for using them when not required. I have friends who were fined for having their grill L.E.D. warning lights on whilst in the construction area of the hard shoulder on a motorway, the officer explained that there was no need for them to be on as they only needed to warn the people approaching from behind.

They can be so picky. I once got pulled for having my front wheels about an inch over the stop line at traffic lights. You can tell they're bored when they start pulling you for things like that.

would have thaught he would have been able to get off on that as the warning lights are also to warn the site workforce of his presence under HSE rulings risk assessments movement of Site traffic blah blah blah (no disrespect to his driving ;-)

I wonder how they would get on with an amber rotating beacon that warns people on a plane of 360 degrees and are fitted to most plant an site traffic they are supposed to be mounted in a certain way and most site traffic doesnt comply 100% to the wording look at BT vans whos are off set to the right for example.. ive fitted them to an "on off on" switch so i can turn them off should someone complain or override them ;) cant be any worse than the idiots with the blue washer jets that seem to get away with that all the time as these are only going to be on when reversing and are amber ( i suppose i could be really bad and buy Blue :)i use my hazards most of the time too with the single low mounted left reversing light people aproaching on my off side cant see the light if i'm backing into a parking space for example..

what was your mate fined Ozzie £30 none endorsable FPN as per improper use of foglamps??

My understanding of the road traffic act yada yada yada is that only emergency vehicles are allowed to display a blue light, and only when on a call & that any other vehicle showing a blue light can be done.
Yet I've seen loads of cars and lorries with the blue neons in the washers.
And what about these opillocks that drive everywhere at any time with their front fogs always on? I've even seen them have just front fogs & no other lights.
Why doesn't plod do something about them?
And how do they get the car through a test - I thought ancilliary equipment such as fogs were supposed to have a warning light come on whilst they are on - hence the bright blue light on the dash for full beam & yellow lights for front & rear fogs.

I always let them know they are annoying me when they tail me with fogs on - I switch my rear fogs on & drive slower:D
They flash me a few times, I turn my fogs off. If they don't turn theirs off, mine go back on:D

Just been on to my local Fiat dealer. New lamp assembly (you can't just buy the lens - now there's a suprise!) is £52.37 inc vat - much cheaper than I thought considering it's a huge light fitting.
Found one on a parts website & after delivery I'd only save a fiver - not really worth the hassle.

Got the unit fitted today. The price even includes all five bulbs - two tail, orange indicator, reversing and stop - even more impressed now.
(although being impressed wore off slightly as I struggled to pull the speaker grille off then remove the grommet to access the 'nut' holding the light cluster - I say 'nut' because it's the weirdest looking thing.
Take a sheet of metal, roll it into a tube, pinch the middle & tap a thread whilst shaping the top end to resemble a 17mm nut.
