Hiya,

I`m back with a Fiat :)

started with mk1 punto then Bravo, then Marea Weekend Diesel <- Heaven

then a mk5 D Astra, didnt like it, then 2.2D Xtype, loved it, but wanted an auto,

Now Have Chroma 2.4 Mjet200 Auto "prestigio", <-heaven again.

Have an issue to resolve

now and again and getting more frequent, the following 4 things happen

1. The odometer Flashes

2. The outside temp gauge goes to straight lines

3. Front elec windows/door buttons dont work

4. Front locking dont work (Just front doors)

seems to come and go at random. First I thought corroded fuse, then broken wire in door somewhere, but its getting more random. Long and short Journeys.

Doesnt seem to relate to any form of vibration, but I`m thinking maybe the warmer weather is a factor?

Any thoughts?

Modern car electrics, electronics, ECUs, etc. are very much more LESS TOLERANT of , poor connections, iffy batteries, etc.

My advice to all is "start at the heart".

In this case the raw heart pulse comes from the battery and all the arteries (wires/connections) that come from it.

The alternator is the food, the battery the heart, the cabling the arteries.

Your heart, if in good condition, will keep pumping with no immediate food. If you have artery/cable connection issues then a good food supply, good heart will not overcome bad artery/cable connection issues.

And before anyone possibly comments then yes tracking these issues down can be very difficult but the basic premise (good food, good heart, good arteries) has to be the initial starting point.... I hope !

Cool and rainy today, no issues! I wonder if temp circuit is a good place to look

no issues with this since last post

ssshhh!

:)

Oh, it caught me out last night, was parking up to see LOTR, when the above issue happened again, but this time with an open window after collecting parking ticket. Couldn't get the window shut =0) took half an hour of waiting before I could get the window closed, will put it into diagnostic garage in the new year, but, if they can't fix, I'm thinking of asking them to take the electric Windows out of the circuit and give it is own power supply. Sound plausible?

S130-good methodical post, start at the basics. The amount of times weve attended to industrial engines and sometimes over seas with non run conditions and its been down to starter motors fitted incorrectly and the posi and neg fitted reverse polarity blowing the ECM fuses,or batterys fitted back to front.Honestly.
Slightly of topic, were have you found a 2.4.You were extremely lucky.nice choice.

Lovely car, had it for 1 yr, eBay, some dealer in Leeds. Plan keeping it for 1 more year @ least ?

Flashing odometer means can bus issue, still battery? Drivers window control buttons show signs of previous entry..

Hi just a thought, have you checked the connector on the steering Colum by releasing the height and rake lever and pulling the steering wheel in out up down if it is the loose plug you will get some drama with the dash display! If this is the case then release the trim behind the wheel the plug connection is on the left and six or so inches down.
:)

Interesting, will give it a whirl tomorrow

Battery and alternator checked out OK, booked it into auto electrical place today, they weren't really interested in fixing problem
Never knew you have to re-set electric Windows after battery fitting.
Ne1 know where I can get a repair manual for croma? Unusually eBay turned up nothing. Interested in circuit diagrams. I see Renault doing Zoe's for £124/mnth with 99 deposit :0)

K, thanx for that

Twice over the weekend the circuit failed, however the Odometer didnt flash the whole time (1.5hr journeys) What did happen is now esp and hillstart and I think ABS are offline permanently

A clue maybe?

Hi,
This does sound like a CAN bus issue. The next step is to get MultiECUscan connected up to the EOBD port and look for fault codes. I guess you don't have MultiECUscan? Where are you located? If you are near I have registered copy. Mind you with the cost of a Chinese interface, the free version would be a cost effective start.

Robert.

Aberdeen UK, don't spoke you could stick on eBay auction numbers, make it simple for me?

Got this 321478630934 from ebay - that the right one?

I notice multiecuscan is easy to find, the registered version worth a purchase?

Hi,
Sorry to say, but I don't think so. That is a K line (VAG cars use this) only interface. Most of the bus on the Croma is CAN. I use an ELM 327 interface. It works with MultiECUscan fine on my Croma 1.9 16V as it did on my Marea Weekend 110. I had an Audi S4 Avant before and used VAG COM with a K line (RS232) interface so I know it won't work. The ELM327 support both CAN and K line. Buy a USB one, not bluetooth. I have the separate box style like ebay item 131303499158, but that's just because I'm an electronics engineer and wanted to be able to tap into the raw serial date between the ELM chip and the USB chip easily. You need an adaptor ("Green") to connect to the ABS/powersteering, but not for what you are doing now. I just put a switch in the plug to give green adaptor functionality. another advantage of the separate box solution, there is room in the plug for a switch.
I'm very happy with my registered copy of MultiECUscan.

Robert.

Hiya

bought elm 327, it needs a green adaptor to talk to abs/esp?

I have these lights on just now, Interestingly, when the front door curcuits fail and the abs warning is on , the odometer doesnt flash

do i need this? 201266697051

A friend has a snapon code reader, he couldnt access abs, but managed to get the follwing code from the gearbox

P1718 issue with nsr abs

and

U1602 from somewhere else (Body?) (Can bus communication issue - dodgy cable connection?)
