Hi all. (again)
Those who may of seen my past problems with water pump and flashing engine light, hopefully can shine a light on this issue for me?.
Ok.... 1st of all, i am yet to strip the car down again to double check the timing after reading a p0300 code.
BUT, when i went to have a look at this a week ago i found my EML had turned itself off and no mater how hard i tried i could not get it to flash or go solid.
Chuffed with this i drove to work and had NO issues at all with the car's running etc.
Put 1/2 a tank of fuel in it and the EML started flash at me while giving it the beans and letting off the gas then going solid.
Feeling fed up and not being bothered to have a look at it again with this pants weather.
I ignored it, the car drives, revs exactly as a "normal" car should run.
Anyhow, today while trudging slowly through the snow to work the EML once again turns off by itself and again no flashing under revs etc.
The 2 similar things are that both times the fuel was almost out.
Whats going??
And once i added 1/2 a tank the light flashed again.

I wonder if you've got something going on with the EGR valve canister thing, alfacool.

It certainly seems fuelling-related, in terms of heavy fuelling (giving it the beans) or reaching the dregs of the tank.

Do the charcoal canister things have a life..? We've got that blue-pipe stuff going on, on the OS on the Sei, yeah?

Thanks for replying.
Im at a loss with this one, and could do with some technical help to resolve it.
Today while driving to work with just under 1/4 tank i didn't have a single EML flash.
The fuel light came on and the car continues to drive fine.
On the way home knowing i was going to fill up i tried various way to make the engine light flash, but again all was good.
Then immediately after putting fuel in to take it over 1/2 a tank it flashed??.
What on earth could it be and where can i look??

Hey alfacool-

is the p0300 code unrelated? Is that genuinely to do with your timing..?

I have to say, from what you describe; that there may indeed by genuinely nothing wrong with the car. You may either have a bad sensor, or bad wiring to that sensor.

The sporadic nature of it, suggests something 'dynamic' in nature as an input to a sensor, and I suppose my mind jumps to the lambda probe, or MAF; do these cars have a mass airflow sensor on the intake manifold..?

There can only be three sensors that could trigger this, surely..?

Thanks for the reply.
Agreed it may be a wiring fault, but that opens a can of worms.
I have changed the front lambda sensor again a couple of weeks ago with a tested "good used" one.
But its still the same.
And these cars do not have a MAF sensor only a MAP type.

Tank pressure was in my mind too, checked the cap and all looks ok?.
Question is why it throws up faults when refuelled again.
As an experiment i disconnected the battery again at work yesterday and left it for 3 hours.
Solid EML remained on and it continued to flash on the way home.
Checked the codes today and there was loads more than the P0300 i had before.
I cleared them off and ran the car for 10 minutes and while testing no codes came up.

Just looking at fuel evaporation system on Cinquecento & the book talks about afloat valve opening when fuel level is average or low & tank pressure is high...the valve opens to release vapour to the carbon filter...also mention of carbon filter need ing replacement occasionally. Looks as though the ECU is connected to a solenoid controlling the carbon filter....so basically sorry to say I have no idea what your problem might be but am wondering if this might be an area to check out as it maybe linked to fuel level....if the filter is clogged could it trigger a light?
