i had this problem in my cinq too, mouse was sat on the warm gearbox. few days later it came back and ate some all butter croissants my wife had left in there by accident but didnt touch the regular tesco croissants. it must have been a bit of a posh mouse. anyway, my wife found out that they dont like the smell of peppermint oil so you could try 'blessing' the car with it. we did it to ours and never had a problem since.

you had croissants in the engine bay????

smearing toothpaste in various places seems to have helped. i have also purchased some peppermint spray to try and help.

i was using irish spring soap until i found they were eating it!!!!

To be fair.. wrap a croissant in foil and stick it inside the engine bay. By the time you arrive at work, your breakfast is all warmed up..

hi lads,ive had this problem many times,and on a bigger scale! rats getting into engine bay,and inside car!!!

they destroyed a nice sd1 rover and a classic saab 900.',

they are very destructive,eating whole gear knobs and leather gear shift gaiters! wiring etc. they just eat all the rubber gromits in the bulk head to get in.


i was given the tip,and it works,cheap body deodderent,but 10 cans of the nastyest smelling stuff in pound land and spray the areas they nest/stay.

you will have to put up with the smell for a bit but they will move if stunck out of the area.

this works on mice and rats.

what also makes them move on is the smell of death,not nice but leave a few dead mice still in traps in the engine bay,they will sence death and leave.

the good thing is if you have mice you wont have rats.


you may think its mad but the above does work

Well the mice are back for this year

Will have to get trapping again....

Caught 2 of the buggers in 1 night.

Have moved the car to a different place on the drive and all seems ok at the moment......

The mice might just like how the spaghetti wiring tastes. It's Italian after all.
