Took another look at the TB and it has 3 pipes in a cluster coming from it, two are beneath the disk bit (that opens/closes), I can see right through them and they are leading out into air? Is this right? Is this the cause of my problems?

After changing the TB back to the old one the problem has definately got better, now it seems almost fine.

Any advice heapful

no idea if this could be a cause but seen as the ECU needs to get used to new bits.. specialy stuff like that as its letting in loads more air.. have you tried resetting the ECU? disconnect it for about an hour and then start it again with the new TB on.. let it idle till its warm (90 degrees) and then take it for a slow drive...keep revs under 3000 and accelerate slowly... let the ECU get used to the new extra air and adjust its settings.

see if that helps unless uve alread tried.

has anyone else run a Mckrich chip with the 40tb?

I did reset, but didnt do a steady drive, in fact im not too sure it was an hour either.

Does the Mckrich have the learning capacity the normal chip has?

i dont know about the Mckrich chip.. thats why I asked if anyone had tried the combination of the chip and 40mm tb. maybe they dont work too well together??

but if it was that then when you put the normal TB back on, it should be fine.. which leads me to either think that youve put both on slightly wrong or damaged something in the process. cant be something broke on the TB as the original would work fine. must be a pipe, from previous posts it sounds like a vacume problem.

Can you get a picture of your TB and ill be able to tell you if something in the wrong place?

Other than that.. it could be that the ECU has adjusted slightly which is why the original TB doesnt work quite well but works better than the 40mm. try a Rest.. disconnect it overnight :)

i would repeat the reset on the standard TB(since its fitted now)overnight and give it a day or so to settle.if all goes well then fit the tricker tb and repeat the reset etc and see what happens

Yup, gonna have to wait a while now, need to drive it about 10 miles on sat to get paint and tints done.

Thank to all that have helped me so far, and if you could keep me informed of your transfer Custard, and tell me what the three pipes are for as well.

Thanks guys! Makes me proud to have www.FIATforum.com stickers in my windows now

right on the hoses the top one is connected to the blue pipe. the two lower ones are connected to each other.
incidently the TB i recieved from tricker only had one lower pipe connection with the 2nd one blanked off. luckily i had a patented pipe blocker off screw to block the pipe on the one outlet.

in the interest of science;) i DIDNT reset the ecu to see what effect the TB would have.
car fired up 1st time no probs and was more responsive to reving for sure. i'll be taking it out for a run tonight to see what it feels like :D

Right, mine came with some thin tube with two brown ends, after a bit of welly I have the bottom two connected to each other and the top one is ready (when i get my car back) to go to the blue pipe to the charcoal canister

I'll let you all know how it goes in a fortnight, thanks a lot custard.
