So yesterday I gathered my tools, my fuel filter, oil and oil filter and headed down to my car. After jacking the rear and finally finding the axle stand points I got to work on the fuel filter.
The 'supposedly' harder task of the two according to haynes. 20 minutes later and it was all connected and working. (btw I have a tub holding the fuel that escaped, how do I dispose of it properly??)

So feeling good so far, had a bacon sarnie (as you do) and decided to crack on with the oil.
Slid my container underneath, socket into the sump plug annnnnnnnd it wouldn't budge. At all. Now I'm not saying I'm the strongest guy but I'm not exactly weak either, especially seeing as I managed to break the ratchet I was using...
Whilst underneath the sump I did notice a hell of a lot of oil around the plug and on the sump itself so I've probably got a leak... Fantastic.

So I phoned my dad (also as you do) and told him about the plug, the oil and the ratchet, hoping to get some insight, or maybe have him give it a go. And he phones a garage to service it! :( I know I shouldn't be complaining about that, hey I get a free service! But I kinda wanted to do it on my own, or with help. Putting her into a garage just feels like I've failed... to change the damn oil of all things!!!

There wasn't really much point in this thread, more just to get a few opinions on the stuck plug or spark some conversations about traitorous parents :p:p

People have been known to overtighten the sump plugs on all cars rather than replace the 50p copper sealing washer....

Sorry I havent been tlking, my net kinda exploded XD yea the oil was hot, I went for like a 6 mile journey to make sure, the plug was fastened to it, oddly I couldnt get the filler cap off either but I'm putting that down to being a ***** and not wanting to get burnt XD
As for the leak, there was a hell of a lot of oil, but none was dripping, which I guess is a good thing.
And I'll burn the fuel, it's been outside for ages and has mixed with leaves and mus in the tin lol

thanks for your help guys! :D

As said, there is no copper washer (unless some fool used the wrong bolt). It's certainly possible to overtighten. Leaks from the sump -- usually from here it mates ith the block -- are not uncommon.

Ah well, at least you got the full service done!

Some sevice must be forced. In order to improve your quality.(y)

Yea but I was kinda hoping to do a lot of the easier stuff on my own. Like most people on here, I don't see the point in forking out epic £££ when I can change the oil myself. (In this case I couldn't but that doesn't void my point!!)
