Got down to doing the brakes today and haven taken them apart found that on both front wheels the pads had uneven wear - ie one pad was finished (IIRC the one near the caliper), while the other still had some 5mm left. Same thing on both sides.

Any ideas as to why... and what to do? Fitting new gear tomorrow...

How freely should it be sliding? It seemed fine... maybe it wasn't like ice on ice, but rather smooth.

the difference is not that big, don;t think u should worry too much!

Does both caliper pistons goes back in easily? If they are, then i think it is fine :)

I'd have to check... IIRC they were a bit stuck. Changed the seals on one piston, will see the other one tomorrow.

Maybe 5mm doesn't seem like much, but with both pads in the hand the difference was striking! I wore one pad right down to bare metal :)o), while compared to new ones the other didn't even look like halfway gone.

PS In 1st post - substitue "piston" for "caliper" :p
