can't find a definative guide as to whether square plates are legal on any car in the uk, or just imports.

Anyone have any links or info on this?

i thought they were illegal unless the car was an import

Well I had a legal size square one on the front of my old one and never got pulled for it..

Even if it was blutacked inside the windscreen

I take it from reading that document thoroughly, that since it does not state that square plates are illegal on cars - that I can legally fit them?

As long as they comply with the regs with regard to spacing font and sizes, square plates are legal.

i had bike plate on front of mine - thought they where sqaure plates but think they was smaller

Bike plates are smaller but not legal for car use,
one on my bike is not legal full stop. I did get pulled for it once... but not cos the size! because it has a corner broken off! (some nob in a car park reversed into my bike while i was on it)

Number plates have to be a specific size regardless of vehicle.

cc1, if you actually looked at that leaflet you'd see that motorbike plate spacings are smaller that car spacings.

Yep! the number plates ARE quite a bit smaller on bikes. Mainly because they would be wider then the bike and so would get ripped off as soon as you did any kind of speed ;-)

For some reason that thing never gave dimentions of the plate itself

Actually - I think it looks pretty good on the back, can't seem to get it to look right on the front though lol!

im undecided whether it would look dodgy or not considering the indent in the bumper
