Ok so it's possibly been covered before, however I cannot find a thread relating to it. Occasionally the needle sticks at zero for what seems ages, have any of you come up with a remedy for this?

I'd be interested in knowing how to fix that myself; mine's been like that for as long as I've had my B. It usually resolves itself after a few minutes, so I haven't been too bothered about it.

Bad connection ?Since the dials work with electricity possibly something is loose.

Mine has also been like that for as long as I've had bee. I have a gps so I haven't bothered to fix it until a couple of days ago. I took out the speedo and started looking for a bad connection. My speedo usually works at high speed (100km/h +) and when i touch the reset pin for the tripmeter. I couldn't find any bad connection, but the circuit board (? kretskort - help me out, Robot) was a bit dirty. I cleaned it, and put the speedo back together. Now it works! Don't know if it was the cleaning that did it, but at least it works. :)

I wonder if you all have the "overlay" mph card put on to replace the original mph card when your B was imported? Mine had, too and I had the same problem - until the tachometer failed and I was relieved of £600 by FIAT for a complete new set of dials, manufactured with MPH and miles on the odometer as original. No problems since! I know this doesn't help much with the actual problem - but thought it might be useful (useless?!) background information! :)

Thats an expensive tacho repair ,my tacho would not reset 2 weeks ago i removed the speedo and the rod you push to reset it had jumped out the groove it sits in, put it back in its correct position and works perfect again, as for robot and the bodyshop be prepaired for dust removal i am still cleaning the left overs under the bonnet/boot ,airvents as the car is painted with the roof down .

Hi Ricky - I think you mean the odometer (the miles/km's travelled)? The tachometer is the rev counter (engine speed). And yes - it was eyewateringly expensive, but the most shocking thing about it was that Fiat had the part ready to go, cos it happens more often than it ever should (so I was told...) (the rev counter failing, that is)

Wonder if it's enough unplugging the unit & plugging it back in, iv'e found this quite common with electronic speedo's. Might be worth investing in a can of electrical contact cleaner and spraying all the plugs & pins when putting it back together.

So after reading the comments I tried the simplest method, I pushed twisted then pulled the odeometer reset stick and hey presto the needle jumped up to speed. KPH as I prefer that to having an MPH overlay card.
As for the cleaning part that'll have to wait until after the paintshop have finished the repairs next month.
Thanks for all of the advice, you guys are worth (save) a fortune.

I've found a solution to mine too; I just tap the lower left corner of the speedo, et voila (y)

Somebody mentioned overlay card for MPH. My B is a UK import into Ireland and we swapped from MPH to KPH a few years back. What is the cheapest / simplest option to replace the MPH speedo with a KPH one? No breakers here have B's and I don't want to shell out €500 to Fiat for a new clock...
