Hi, I have today replaced the engine oil and filter on my daughters 2008 Fiat 500 multi jet 1.3 diesel. Last oil service was March 2019, carried out by the garage that sold the car to her.

Until now the car has only covered 7000 mainly motorway miles. The only reason I have changed the oil is that I was getting nervous waiting for the oil change or service required message on the dash, but it hasn’t happened.

My question is, I cannot find any service counter reset in the menu on the dash. Oil light hasn’t come on, I haven't got Multiecuscan as I haven’t justified the cost yet.

Do I need to press pedals, push buttons etc to reset the ecu as I have done on other cars/vans in the past?

Can only be done with the correct software, namely MultiECUscan. Well work the small cost as it basically dealer spec software with regards to what tasks you’re able to undertake with it.

When she first purchased the car we sent it back to the garage 3 times as it was over fueling, filling the sump with diesel and blocking the DPF, putting the DPF and oil depletion lights on the dash. It’s been 18 month

That is what I warned you of

It NEEDS to be reset after an oil change..

€50 software and a connector kit seems good value if you are intent on keeping it away from professional garages ;)

:yeahthat:

Do not ignore this advice.

If you just leave it and wait to see what happens, the next thing that might happen is the DPF might fail (expensive) or, worse, a broken engine due to oil dilution (and that will write off a 2008 car).

Sorry, i hadn't finished typing and posted

Here is a little history on the car.

When she first purchased the car we sent it back to the garage 3 times within about 6 weeks as it was over fueling, white smoke out the exhaust, filling the sump with diesel and blocking the DPF, putting the DPF and oil depletion lights on the dash.

i did notice that every time we collected the car from the garage, the ECU had been replaced.

also, whilst under the car draining the oil i notice the sump plug is not correct as its a T30 hex as its a 2008? also to the back of the sump there is a 2 pin socket un used I'm guessing for an oil level sensor?

it has been trouble free for 18 months now, no oil service or DPF lights and only 7k covered. if it does come on i will have to acquire the kit but shouldn't it have indicated a service by now?

No, oil deflation and oil change warning is stand alone to service reminder.

As above, if you change the oil you MUST reset the degradation index. Fail to do this and throw it out of sync and you'll likly suffer the issue jrkitching has warned!

Thanks for the advice, is there anyone local to Coventry that has MES that could reset this for me in exchange for some beer tokens?

Official service reminder is 18k I think if it has been set again after around 8 service the car runs out of (servict coupons) as they are called then this needs to be reset back to a hight leevt or the car will never state it needs a service again

Also the oil change /degredation counter will also go off around 16-18k depending on how many regenerations it has carried out
