I’ve put a new door on today. It was a bare door, no loom, lock, handle, glass, runners, regulator. All had to be put in.

Now it’s all together when I run the window up, when it gets to where it is in the picture, the glass tips forward and then jams. I can wind it down a bit and hold it straight as it goes up but it won’t go up straight on its own. I’ve tried loosening the runners and adjusting them but it doesn’t make any difference.

Any ideas anyone? IMG_2104.JPG

Just had to sort my sons VW polo with same symptom and it was one of the two fixings onto bottom of glass that had come adrift, the other continues to push up and glass goes out of square.

I may have finally figured this problem. I gave up with the one I had and got another door complete with glass and sold this one as a bare door after taking everything off.

Yesterday my sister in law who had one of my cars got her passenger window smashed and I had to replace it today. Hoovered all the glass out, managed to get it all out of the runners, put the glass in and the same thing is happening. Now yesterday before being smashed, it was fine.

I’ve just spent about two hours trying to figure it out in the rain.

The conclusion I have come to after finding a split in the rubber trim that goes up the front of the door that the glass is guided into by the runners. I believe that as the glass goes up, the leading front edge goes into the split which then makes the glass tilt forward coming out of the rear guide. I tried taking the external chrome strip off and initially it wasn’t doing it but I think the hole in the rubber was just made bigger.

It’s up for now and all put back together as a temporary measure. I think I may have one from a car I broke in the loft so hopefully I can replace it.

I do hope that this is why as I spent far too long trying to figure it out before.
