Hi guys. I am new to the forum as I have my first problem with my 3 year old 500 1.2 Pop. The blower motor has stopped working. I have checked the fuse which is Ok and the a/c light still comes on. Has anyone had a similar fault? If the motor is kaput is it a DIY change? Any help please.

Hi
Just developed the same problem on a 3 year old 500 and wondered if you resolved what appeared to be a similar fault?

Might be a silly question but does it work at all? If you turn it to max does it work?

If so I had a similar problem on my Puma which was a simple fix, took about 5 minutes and £30 for the part.

If it works on 4 but not the others try searching for fiat 500 heater control valve.

Many thanks for the replies.

It doesn't work at all, on any speeds. I checked the fuse and also I've trawled a few other online threads that relate to similar problems.

It's my wife's car and she says it was working one day and not working at all the next day. I was hoping to eliminate all the relatively easy possible fixes before calling in at the Fiat center. I have to admit that I'm struggling to locate where some of the parts are located but are worth checking out for example the heating resistor.

Also, frustratingly but coincidentally the drivers side door handle has broken - the toggle part inside the handle that allows it to rock back and forth - but of course even though it is a separate part I guess I have to buy the whole handle ;-(

always the chance the fan is immobilised by debris.. leaves..parking tickets, etc,

The 500 has a grill over the cabin intake opening, nothing bigger than a pea can get in. Although a small stone could make it past, the grill's location makes that very unlikely. A jammed fan would typically blow the fuse.

It really all depends on whether the fan works on high or not.

the Grande Punto has a fairly common issue with a "dead" fan,

debris clearance usually does the trick,
thin paper parking tickets ( vouchers) is a common object to find in there ;)

Does the GP have a pollen filter? I haven't removed the one in the 500 yet, but in my VW it's located before the fan so nothing can possibly get lodged in there.

There's typically a trap door after the pollen filter that takes in (unfiltered) recic. air from the passenger footwell.

So if my fan doesn't work at all do you think that it could be debris

Hi.
In the 3 years since posting...little has changed.

There are 3 main issues:

No electrical supply

Debris jamming fan

Dead motor

There is a great GUIDE covering most of this for the GRANDEPUNTO..

Most of the info is true for the majority of the FIAT range.

Basic models still have a resistor pack
(Dropping voltage to slow the fan for its 4 speeds) on climate equipped cars this is more complex.

Early 2003/4 pandas get squeaky fans through age ....so the 500 could logically have one physically seize I suppose.. or get so tight it draws excess current and pops the fuse..damages the wiring...

I would attemp to access the fan unit.
Look for signs of over heating..or shredded leaves.

Ideally test for a good electrical supply
:)

Ive removed the fan..checked its bearings by hand..then given a direct 12volt supply.

If that fireds it round ok.. you are looking at the wiring within the car

Good luck..and let us know what you find.

2012 Pop, blower motor randomly works. When my daughter gets in and starts the car it will work one day then at random when she starts the car it does not work. It is either 100% working (everything works normal) or 100% not working. Lights on the controls are on either way. I replaced the blower resister and it worked for about a week and a half without and issue then started the issue again. Fuses look good under the dash and hood. Advice?
