Evening fellow owners. I have a twin pipe sports CSC exhaust installed on Valentina. It’s ok, but I need more noise. I have straight through systems on my other cars. So feeling the need, the need for. . . . noise. Appreciate it won’t be to everyone’s taste.

Been surfing the web for a bit. But not seen anything that will suit.

Does anyone have any recommendations they could give?

Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob, my 500 has a "Sport exhaust pipe '2-in-1', st. steel, 1 tailspout 60 mm Fiat 500 F/L/R/126" from Axel Gerstl in Germany (art no 03062) (y)(y) it's not cheap as it's a CSC marmitte stainless system, but if you want noise you get noise !!! The system comes with a handy plug to fit come MOT (if you need one) time otherwise it's straight through to the tailpipe. The down pipes are 40mm into one 50mm then the 60mm tail pipe !!!:devil::devil:
Ian.

I had a custom 'stainless' exhaust system made for (eventually) my 695 engine. I have run it on my current tuned-126 engine---it is quite throaty! I was able to lend the exhaust makers my spare engine, complete with cylinder head, and they made the system to fit. Sadly, on this side of the pond, the 'boys in blue' are quite happy to jump on anybody with what they consider too noisy, plus there is a max-noise limit that is required to pass the MOT (annual government check---mandatory for cars under 40 years old, voluntary for cars over 40 years old). However, if you look on the web-sites of some of the Italian companies in particular, they can supply some VERY noisy systems that are basically for the racing versions (700cc) of the 500.

I have this - noisy and flames....

Nice, but not loud enough. I’ve ordered one of these. Looks to be straight through :slayer:

Also, will be a lot lighter than my original sports exhaust that was in stainless. It weighed a surprising amount.

I’ll post up some sound action when its delivered. If its REALLY obscene, I’ll fit a db killer. The exit pipe diameter is 70mm

The beast has arrived. As expected it’s straight through with no silencing whatsoever. The neighbours already hate me as my other Italians have straight through exhausts as well.

Will fit it tomorrow eve post work and have a drive. Then I’ll let it all cool down and recheck all the nuts and bolts. Weighs nothing so only a small self contained bracket to secure.

Got the pipe on this evening. Bit of a struggle with the engine in situ, but got there in the end. It’s fouling the bodywork a bit as per pictures. Whats the advice in this? Cut a bit out of the shelf?

The whole of the exhaust weighs jack all. I should have put it on the scales prior to fitting. But, its only connected via the manifold connections. Nothing obvious to affix it to the engine lower down where the studs are for the exhaust brackets. I’ll touch base with the vendor in Italy, see if they have a suitable bracket or suggestion.

Right. Noise. Jesus Christ, it’s seriously loud. Coming off the gas, pops and explodes like its WWIII. I’ll need to drive it a lot more to see if I can live with it, or fitment of a db killer will be needed. Early days yet.

Welcome advice / feedback

Cheers
Rob

Question (1)---yes, you will have to trim the interior side panel. Work out and mark the amount you will have to remove to JUST give you clearance; take the exhaust off and cut off the marked amount (dremel or small angle-grinder); turn about 3/16in of the new edge back on itself, and with a couple of hammers (one on top doing the hitting, 1 underneath as a 'stop') peen the edge over to give the new edge rigidity.
Question (2)---a support for the exhaust can be simply made using a strip of about 1/8th (3mm) steel strip and a heavy duty spring. Drill the strip so that it can be secured to the rear pair of exhaust mount studs. BEND the strip so that it just goes under the exhaust expansion-box and hold the exhaust onto the strip with a heavy-duty spring. Look at part number:--UL1018 on the F.D.Ricambi web-site to give you an idea of what I am trying to describe. If the expansion-box is long enough, you might be able to make a plate that uses all 4 of the exhaust bracket studs and 2 retaining springs, as per the F.D. Ricambi part.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions chaps. So not quite plug n play as I was expecting  I've emailed the vendor, to see what they suggest. I'm loathe to attack the internal bodywork. Maybe a bend of the pipes might be an option. However that will bring the main exhaust can nearer the body work at the back of the car and this could create a clearence issue? As you know, these engines rock a bit on their mounts are low RPM.

Also, silly question. Whats the difference between an exhaust for the F/ L and the 126 / R ? I've seen the same type for sale but for different models. So interested to understand what the differences are?

Cheers
Rob

Exhaust pipe is about 2.5 mm bigger diameter for 126

The head has larger exhaust ports and cast iron elbows also slightly larger.

Any other comments welcome regarding whether it sits in the same place

The outlet heater tube from the thermostat housing is in a different place from 500 to 126 so a 126 exhaust on a 500 will normally foul the pipe.

Hi Rob, It looks like your car has the 126 thermostat housing as the pipe comes out the side not the rear .
